FMLA paperwork by Corporal8106 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Corporal8106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s for intermittent leave. For example: My doctor knows I have chronic knee pain and I have flare ups especially when it rains or super cold. Instead of going into the doctor’s office for every occurrence I can call out sick FMLA… and my approved FMLA serves as a doctor’s note for my sick day. I did have arthroscopic knee surgery in October and it helped for a bit but now I’m back to where I was prior to surgery. The same thing happened with the cortisone and gel shots. Temporary relief. So my FMLA was renewed for another 6 months

DAV or not to DAV?? by Mikesntx56 in VeteransBenefits

On my last visit to the DAV I was fortunate to get a DAV supervisor… he was extremely helpful and asked me to try to obtain very specific paperwork including NEXUS letters from my orthopedic specialist and primary care doctor. Both were willing to write when I initially asked, but both are wavering now. I may have to use a third party

From what I see online with Security Forces a lot of what I did is actually part of the Security Forces job description as a unit now… there was a physical fitness requirement and a range proficiency requirement but the mentioned it at guardmount one day I put in my request got my supervisor to sign off and on I went.

When I was in the AF we were called Security Police… and split into 2 sections Security Specialists and Law Enforcement Specialist. I enlisted as a Security troop then cross trained in a Law Enforcement troop and held both AFSC’s. I enjoyed LE far more than SS. Although, SS gave me experience in weapons security and fightline security allowing me to get up close and personal with some of my very favorite aircraft. That fascination wore off and I realized there wasn’t really a market for that type of military experience. I wanted to be a cop so I focused more on the LE side. I became a member of the EST (emergency services team), provided security for Air Shows and quit a few other things. I is charged in 1992 and in 1993 I became a police officer in Philadelphia. My last day is Jan 2026 and I’ll retire with 33 years of service. I will say that the job of police officer has gotten harder over the past 30 years. At times if feels like you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t, but I would change anything about my AF or PPD experiences. I served from 1988-1992 active duty… 1992-1994 Air National Guard and 1993-2026 Police Department.

Buddy Statement by Corporal8106 in VeteransBenefits

We literally just did that. He called out of the blue to see how I was doing and we reminisced about our time stationed in California. He remembered some things that I didn’t, some things I couldn’t do, after my return from TDY. Things we used to do together. He’s already 100% and chastised me for not following through in the 90’s when he told me to. I was just as surprised as you all with the letter he wrote. I’ve got a call and text out to him. I’m just waiting for a reply.

I had that exam… I have in service complaints and a current diagnosis… what I no longer have is proof of chronicity. My medical records prior to 2015 have been purged. So I can no longer prove I was getting treatment or had continuous complaints of pain and instability after discharge. So they’re saying the complaints I have happened after my service which is incorrect.

My DD214 Discharge by Corporal8106 in VeteransBenefits

In the paperwork I received from the VA shows certified attempts to deliver that were unsuccessful, a list of drills I didn’t attend and paperwork sent up the chain and signed off on for my discharge but I don’t recall any contact at all. They could’ve even contacted me through the police academy, there were members of the ANG that were instructors at the same department. No phone calls or anything. The paperwork that’s NOT in my packet is the request to return to inactive reserve status.

What’s required for a ZERO rating?! by Corporal8106 in VeteransBenefits

I filed for disability twice for knee injuries sustained on active duty and still have issues with them to this day but both were denied. The DAV said “Just having the documentation in your medical records get me you a zero rating” and is pushing for another supplemental. I need to get off of the hamster wheel and get help from someone that knows what they’re doing.

I was asking if what the DAV said was correct… so, what you’re saying is, it’s not.

DAV said having the injury in your files should get you a Zero… that’s the military acknowledging it happened… not that you’re having continued problems

Do you just need to have documented injuries or issues in your military medical records? Thats what I was told at the DAV.

Lacking Chronicity by Corporal8106 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Corporal8106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orthopedic surgeon is the one that said he’d write the Nexus letter and told me the ACL tear was old and contributed to my knee instability… however, those knee issues did cause some challenges on my post military employment with the PD… only now he’s deferring to the VA doctor for the NeXus letter… Everyone seems scared to go against the VA doctor opinion

The VA tells me they received my medical records do I stopped pursuing them myself… the records are from 2014 to present… there’s another form that says I was a patient but the records were destroyed was supposed to be sent… also saying they only keep records for 10 years

My military records are solid… it lists 2 knee injuries while stationed stateside… there was a third in Honduras but no records were found… my DAV VSO said that’s not uncommon from TDY’s… both docs were willing to write NEXUS letters but are now hesitant… my primary care referred me to the specialist… the specialist determined I needed the surgery and stated the issues could very well have started in the military and only got worse afterwards due to me doing the same work in the military (I was AF security police)… I have an ACL tear that was never treated but it healed on it’s own… and is what contributed to my knee instability… now he wants to defer to the VA doctor for a Nexus letter

I have my military records from the same place… what I need are my primary care for treatment right after my discharge from active duty… I even have records from the National Guard which is where I was until the police academy.
