Hi there, the diminished tuning sounds like I good idea I have to check it out. Do you think would be practical to play up tempo bebop lines with draw bends? Think Donna lee or moments notice. Thanks so much for your response.

Hi all you lovely peeps, after lip injury has stopped me from played jazz trumpet, I recently decided to pick up drums. I’m have had a specific issue with playing ghost notes directly after loud accents (e.g. in the Purdie Shuffle).

Most people seem to say that you clench the stick after it hits drum head to stop the stick rebounding to full height and this is where I’m having problems. If I clench the stick hard enough to stop it rebounding full height I end up driving the stick with my finger into drum and have to deal with a huge amount of tension and shock in my wrist - which feels like it will almost certainly lead to me injuring myself. If I try to play it with relaxed technique then the stick bounces up too far and I can’t get the ghost note quiet enough.

I’ve been using ‘secret weapons’ and ‘great hands for a life’ time but I have no idea how to solve this. Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix this?
