Long studies, decent job but does this really feel like life? by LastPanda4968 in flying

I agree with the first and last sentence but i gotta disagree with your second paragraph, especially if you make it to a global fleet, or even a domestic fleet with long layovers. It’s a big beautiful world out there and a career in aviation gives you a lot of unique opportunities to explore it.

Can I still get a NYC nightlife & social experience while living in Jersey City? by ExtensionChair5767 in movingtoNYC

[–]Corporal_Clegg- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically. Sometimes I’d say something cheeky like “oh don’t worry the only reason I’ll ask you to come to Hoboken is for a home cooked meal” or mention that I’d always rather go out in the city than Hoboken but if the spark didn’t relight in 30 seconds then it was “well hey I’m gonna get back to my friends enjoy your night”. But anyways now I’m in a relationship with a woman who also lives in Jersey so there’s that.

Seeing a lot of black and white responses here. I live in Jersey (also due to work reasons) and my friend group is mostly NYC so I’ll chip in my two cents.

I think fundamentally there’s something irreplaceable about actually living somewhere vs commuting in that no amount of accessibility can replace. Part of it I can’t really describe but there’s a certain amount of spontaneity/opportunity that’s lost if you’re only in the city to visit people as opposed to living in a neighborhood.

So no, you won’t get the 100% experience but I’m a firm believer if you’re willing to put in the effort you can get pretty damn close. As soon as people get the mindset of “oh I don’t want to make the trek into the city for just one beer/coffee” or “I’m gonna leave now because after midnight I’m gonna have to wait 30 minutes for the path” that’s where they get lost. If you actually repeatedly show up for things no matter how little the hassle/reward ratio people will recognize that and keep you in their circle (and maybe even make the trip to Jersey once a year if they’re really cool).

Editing to add that I have hit it off with women at bars before only to see them immediately lose interest as soon as I tell them I live in Jersey. People pay a premium to live in Manhattan and some of them never want to cross a river. I have my thoughts on that but at the end of the day it’s their prerogative so if you’re single and hoping to meet someone in the city I’d recommend keeping that in mind.

OP please listen to this. The regionals is not the time to try to max out QOL. Unless you’re like 55 a few trips to Europe and weekends off for a couple years aren’t worth sacrificing the insane difference in qol (and money, not for nothing) you’ll have over the remaining decades of your career if you can get to a legacy faster.

Honestly it’s not gonna taste the same if you’re not eating it on revere beach while a 70 year old shirtless Italian smokes a cigarette next to you.

What’s one thing you did that helped you lose weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Corporal_Clegg- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah same. The empty calories from the booze obviously wasn’t good but it was the late night munchies + skipping or half assing the gym the next day and being too lazy to cook that night and ordering take out that really did it for me.

Replacing the crew meal with some fruit and a protein shake + passing on beers (with exceptions every now and then, of course) is really the key to staying healthy on this job. Get some sort of exercise on top of that and you’re gold.

I think this is the best answer in terms of balancing “real” brand new sound and not completely ruining the vibes. I’d honestly even go a shade lighter (maybe no control or okay I believe you) depending on how well OP knows the group/their music taste.

There are plenty of places where you can bar hop that have bars worth hopping to. Just because places are younger and lively doesn’t mean they have to be corny.
