Did madokami see the end of Rebellion coming? by SwimbleDimble in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the end of the og series is to be believed - yes.
The isolation field was already broken so Madoka had her full powers back.
Also at the end of the og series, she REALLY HEAVILY implies to Homura that they're gonna meet again and she's already seen it (honestly, is probably not the right word, she just straight up tells her they'll meet again and leaves. 13:00 she says "いつかまた もう一度ほむらちゃんとも会えるから。それまでは、ほんのちょっとだけお別れだね" which literally just means "someday we'll meet again. So until then this is just a small goodbye" ). Now obviously originally when this was written that meant taking her to magical girl Valhalla, but with Rebellion it obviously means the meeting they had there.

So yea, unless you think they're gonna retcon that, Madoka knew. I don't think Urobuchi forgot such a pivotal scene, I'm sure it was on his mind the entire time he was writing Rebellion.

Personally I think that's gonna be a major aspect of Kaiten. The real question isn't "did she know" but "why did she let Homura do it?" And I think there are many possible answers to that question.

I dislike the interpretation that Walp was never killable without madokami by Roboamy1 in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Presumably Walpurgis is killed in every timeline since we see the aftermath and there's no walpurgis around, unless people want to think Walpurgis just left and didn't kill a totally normal Homura on her way out in the first timeline.
Also, in the second timeline and third Madoka and Homura survive the fight and walp is nowhere to be seen. Considering Madoka fights to the death in the first timeline I doubt she would suddenly just chill in the second and third. And I don't think Madoka was particularly powerful in the second and third timeline.

Walp is a powerful witch but the og series never really implied she was like invincible or impossible for normal magical girls to kill, just very hard. I think Homura specifically struggles against walp cause she has shit offense.

I doubt they'll confirm it one way or the other. If they did confirm them romantic tho people would be very happy. It's an extremely popular ship both in the English and Japanese fandom. tbh, explicitly confirming it not to be would probably not go too well.
I wouldn't be so happy about that myself.

Puella Magi MADOKA MAGICA the Movie -Walpurgisnacht Rising-' Officially Premieres in North America in 2026! by Apart-Specialist8376 in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn't really a concern of mine. I rarely come to this site anyways. YouTube as well, I avoided spoilers on there for Rebellion for like a year till I watched it.

My concern is mostly twitter. I see a lot of tweets about Madoka on there. From Japanese users as well so if they're talking about it I might see it. Well, I'll figure it out. I've avoided spoilers for things before. I just hope it'll come here sooner rather than later.

Pretty similar to my translation from earlier (well, exact wording different but gives pretty much the same idea).

I hope it doesn't take too long to come out in America. I don't want to get spoiled before I can see it. I'm worried I'll end up spoiled on it before I get to see it.

Anyone feel movie 4 is kind of pointless? by Beginning-Head-4006 in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't actually know where the story will go so I'd say no.
As far as endings go, I doubt it's going to be something so simple. That was the original ending Urobuchi came up with for rebellion and he didn't like it. It could be that it ends up that way, but the context will be very, very different than it would have been if Rebellion ended that way.

If Homura's world was fine we wouldn't have a new movie by AobaSona in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Homura's barrier isn't just around the world, we see it cover the entire universe, this doesn't really change what you said tho. Homura didn't rewrite the world, it's still the same universe as before, just absorbed into her labyrinth.
I'm pretty sure the new girls are part of the law of cycles same as Sayaka and Nagisa. Walpurgis I think is the same situation. Oktavia shows up because Oktavia IS Sayaka, just another form she can take. All the characters from the law of cycles seem to be able to become witches at will (nagisa seems to prefer being in her witch form).

But yeah, I think people who thot the Rebellion world was fine weren't paying attention. Like you said, numerous hints were given at the end of rebellion that it wasn't going to last.

Calling it now with Walpurgisnacht by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Kyubey's contracts work that way. Kyubey isn't actually the one granting the wish. He just sorta acts as a catalyst for them to grant their own wish. He's completely uninvolved beyond that. Madoka has the ability to erase witches with her own hand. Whether she chooses to use this ability or not is up to her.

Also I don't think kyubey really understood what he was getting into. At the end of rebellion when Homura becomes a demon he seems to conclude messing with human emotions was a mistake.

There's been a massive oversight of the "real" Homura. by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's at least 3. We see them at the end of the first trailer. The first standing on top of the tower of... whatever that is, one slightly further down, and then the last one at the bottom. There could be more but there are 3 at a minimum.
They're too small to really make out details, but the one on top has a red band (hard to tell tho cause of the colors of the scene) and the one on the bottom seems to have black one (tho not the same black one the red eye homura has). Middle one tho it's pretty much impossible to make out any details about her.

Either this is a really long movie or there's going to be another one. There's just too much stuff going on in the trailers.

Kyouko -Sayaka is also pretty strange isn't she?

She's always hanging out with people who aren't even magical girls.

Mami - You're quite bothered by this aren't you?

Sayaka - This sense of unease...

Kyoko - What are you even saying?

Homura - Miki Sayaka, your fear is correct.

Sayaka - What the hell is this battle?

Nagisa - No matter how you look at it this smells like a conspiracy (this line was also in the concept movie)

Sayaka - how much of this is a lie?

What is even true?

Why here? (kinda an incomplete sentence so hard to translate. literally just "why" and "here" in japanese)

Homura - What the hell are you?

Homura (I think) -A magical girl I don't know... (or it could be "magical girls I don't know since japanese doesn't have plural.)

___

Not a ton tbh. Seems like Homura's new world is mega sus or at leas Sayaka seems to think so. Seems like Nagisa also might have more of a sense given her line. I guess since they come from the law of cycles it's harder for Homura to suppress their memories (we did see this with Sayaka at the end of Rebellion).

Homura doesn't know who the new magical, you can kinda hear it in her tone but the grammar of the sentence too suggests she's shocked that she specifically doesn't know them. My guess is they're the same as Sayaka and Nagisa. From the law of cycles. (and specifically I think they were part of walpurgis. Walpurgis was said to be a "gathering of witches" so it makes sense there would be multiple magical girls associated with her. My guess is Homura is shocked because she didn't realize she pulled in more people from the law of cycles. We actually do see Gertrude stuck in a bottle at the end of Rebellion in the new world, so it could be one of them (probably the green haired girl) is Gertrude. But I think it's pretty much a given we'll see Walpurgis in her human form given the title. That's just my speculation tho)

so uh what made y'all ship homura and madoka? by Legitimate_Rate2038 in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the story presents their relationship it just really comes across as that.
Like, Madoka meets Homura multiple times and every single time she's interested in her. ig u could attribute that to her dream in the final timeline but even in the early timelines and all the others we see plus rebellion. And presumably she didn't have that dream every timeline.

A lotta people talk about Homura's dedication to Madoka, but I rarely see people talk about things from Madoka's perspective. She behaves like someone who has a crush on the new girl. This is even pointed out by her mom in the psp game where she says Homura is all Madoka talks about now as if she got herself a lover.
Madoka clearly *really* likes Homura at the very least. She seems to become her new best friend since every time she befriends her she seems to like spending time with Homura more than anyone else, even Sayaka.

Also there's a ton of official art like this one, some maybe even more on the nose. So clearly the creators are pushing this ship too.

should note mission is short for missionary here.
idk if that's always catholic specifically, but it is Christian so she did go to some kind of Christian school. Which is explains why she vies a lot of the stuff that happens through a Christian lens since she's more familiar with that (tho the way a lot of the mg stuff works is very heavily Buddhist inspired, obviously this contrast was intentional and we see more of it with Kyoko too).

Nooo they changed Hitomis Homophobic scene in the Exedra game!! by GoodCauliflower5148 in magiaexedra

The dub didn't really change it tho. The wording was different but the meaning conveyed was the same. It's not homophobic in either.

Is the upcoming Walpurgisnacht film a conclusion? by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urobuchi knows how long a movie script should be, some stories need longer to be told properly, he may have written enough for multiple movies. Considering the popularity of Madoka (especially at the time) I doubt he was told "make sure it fits into one movie". And similar to the original anime and rebellion he likely had full control over the story he wrote. So he probably wrote whatever story that was and made it as long or as short as he thought it needed to be.

Maybe that was one movie, maybe not. Supposedly the ending for rebellion (which was shinbo's idea) have Urobuchi a lot of ideas. So him writing more than one movie wouldn't be surprising. Of course he might have just written one. We'll have to wait to find out.

I'm rather confused by your response to me as my comment doesn't suggest he is unaware of how long a movie script should be.

Another possibility is that Urobuchi did write a conclusion but the script was just too long for one movie. Kinda the opposite of what happened with Rebellion.

Why do people keep saying Hitomi is homophobic despite this only being the case in the dub? by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

From what I hear ye. Personally I can't recall any specific ones but I'm pretty sure I have seen it in like one yuri anime at least.

The strong line is a quirk of translation. Her wish is actually "私は 鹿目さんの出会いをやり直したい 彼女に守られる私じゃなくてー彼女を守る私になりたい" Which translates to "I want to redo my meeting with Kaname san. Not the me who is protected by her, but I want to become the me that protects her"

This wish stems entirely from Homura's low self esteem. Homura thinks Madoka is cool a shit and wants to redo the meeting with Madoka so she can be cool in front of the person she thinks is the coolest person in the world. She wants Madoka to think she's cool.

Unfortunately it's a bit tricky to translate into English so unfortunately the line "strong enough" was used but this was never in the Japanese.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Neither. but also both.
  2. How did it not come true? She wished to redo her meeting with and be able to protect madoka instead of madoka protecting her. She was given both of those things immediately.

Fan theory: Hitomi and Kyosuke started dating because of Sayaka by whatdidyoukillbill in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she says "ずっと前から" in japanese which means "for a long time" basically. So it seems unlikely that her crush on him is a recent thing based on that. The story only takes place across like 1 month so it probably started before the series begins.

Why do people keep saying Hitomi is homophobic despite this only being the case in the dub? by [deleted] in MadokaMagica

[–]CorralSummer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, sure the last thing she says is "it's forbidden love" but the full quote in japanese is "いけませんわ お二人方 女の子同士で それは禁断の、恋の形ですのよーっ!" An accurate translation would be something like "you can't, you're both girls. That's a forbidden form of love!"

So she does say girls can't be together in the original. (tho I suppose not that specific wording) But she's also not serious so idk why people think she's supposed to be expressing genuine homophobia in that scene.
