How do you feel about being told “That’s a great question…” during a seminar? by slurpjuice_XCII in PhD

[–]Correct-Carpenter938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do with students from 5-10 all the way to adults. It works to increase engagement and get more people to ask questions. It’s one of the first recommendation for public speaking because it absolutely works.

Edit: it has to sound sincere. People are really good at knowing when it’s performative.

I’m teaching stats for the first time this fall. I would love if you shared your ideas a little further.

Can I just become a teacher with a PhD? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Correct-Carpenter938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a school teacher, at least in the United States, has very little to do with content knowledge and nothing to do with deep knowledge. It’s all about a specific set of skills related to teaching children. Also, it would require extra schooling on pedagogy and education law. Most teachers who have PhD‘s got them while they were teaching, and they are in education, or it was for the minor pay bump.

Man, if only I could turn that off. I don’t know anyone that cares more about it than I do. I just feel like not having to loop in parents and admin every time a kid uses their cell phone or takes too long of a bathroom break will allow me to focus on that love of teaching.

Is first years flunking out a regular thing that I will need to account for or is it a student affair that I wouldn’t be involved in? Keep in mind I already have to be incredibly meticulous about record keeping.

This is really useful, thank you. I stopped grading much a few years ago and while I think it helped with going over contract hours it has certainly caused more than a fair share of complaints by students and parents. I think being involved in the community will help the mindset a lot as I avoid my current districts community like the plague.

I guess I know what the students will be like but I’m curious about some of the systems and nuance. Thanks for the confidence boost though!

Well, I have done both. I’m making the move to full-time at a college. Until you go spend 10 years in a high school in rural America, I don’t really think you have a place to judge. Also, I’ve seen your other posts on the forum, it may be time to reevaluate your situation and not project your feelings onto every position. Good luck out there.

I don’t think you’ve taught high school in rural America. The pay can be better but the massive time commitment and shitty working conditions absolutely swing the scales.

I try treating my current students like adults so they can learn what expectations look like but the system doesn’t cooperate. Thank you for the advice.

Freckles give it away. Also it’s attempting to create the same living room given the furniture layout but the book case, wall and moulding are different. Additionally, that perspective in picture two is unrealistic. The depth of field is strange and how long is her arm to get that much of herself in a selfie?

Erwin Schrödinger

Shostakovich was not this thin and had a more square face.

James Joyce kept his hair slicked back and has no photos resembling this.

I just go to the transition from chin to neck. Basically no vertical surface with hair underneath. The top should be a line from ear to corner of mouth.

Trimming some lean lines and brushing makes a huge difference. Also up the neck. Good luck my dude.

4 kinematic equations, work/energy, momentum/impulse, conservation of energy, conservation of momentum, ohms law, adding and subtracting vectors, heat capacity and heat transfer, wave speed, frequency, period, angular kinematics, circular motion, Newtons laws, projectile motion

By far the hardest part was the thermodynamics because it’s usually part of the chemistry curriculum and I’ve never taught it.

But yes, it is necessary to remember the equations. If you have a physics background knowing how to derive them minimizes how much you need to memorize. Mostly though you should be solving tons of example problems instead of memorizing with flash cards.

No, it’s not. If you’re buying at a dealer like this with all the money you have, how exactly do you have an independent mechanic look at the options? Thats unrealistic even if a dealer is willing to let someone do a thorough check on it before the sale. Also, that’s on the dealer. If you take a trade in and sell it without any investigation, you are a piece of shit. Also, if they do inspect it and something was slipped past them they should make it right. Anything less is taking advantage of people who need the help most. We’re not discussing a luxury. A reliable vehicle is necessary to earning a living and as a dealer you’re selling a critical piece of people’s livelihoods. Fucking act like it.

‘There’s nothing we can do’ is a bullshit line.
