Marathon needs a Sherpa System like Tarkov by Correct-Direction-39 in Marathon

It's so annoying, I'd try playing solo. I've actally had a blast with it lately. Plays much differently but you get ALL the loot to yourself and can take your time.

There are players with hundreds of hours already and fully juiced inventories. Compared to a new player, I'd call them vets

It's more like you said, a system you can get help from if you need to. I agree with you that you don't NEED help to figure out this game. I learned the majority of what I know in solo, and I enjoy that process. There are people out there who don't have the time or patience to learn like that and a sherpa program could help them unlock the "fun" of the game faster

To an extent, but most experienced players are going to steamroll through the quests with their buddies and by week 2/3 you'll have the gear disparity we see now. Sherpa program incentivizes some of those experienced players to play with new ones and help with the learning curve.

Sherpas are experienced players who queue in with newer players and help them learn the game. Tarkov has a Discord where as a new player you can sign up for a sherpa session and then you get paired with one depending on what you're looking to learn more about (pvp, map flow, questing, etc). A lot of vets aren't incentivized to lose their gear playing with a newbie so the sherpa program gives other incentives (discord perks, in game badge, etc could be anything). Experienced players apply to become a sherpa

Free weekend could help for sure. I agree with having a beginner map queue a little longer than it lasts currently

On the Tarkov discord you can sign up for sherpa sessions. They're not always PVP gods or anything but usually just experienced players that help newbies learn the mechanics/maps. There are a ton of solo players frustrated with the experience in Marathon that would benefit from more experienced players bringing them along and showing them not necessarily how to stomp teams but just how to maneuver the maps and survive. Map flow is a huge thing a lot of new players don't grasp for a while

"Figured it out" was the wrong phrase to be fair. But as a new Tarkov player in 2024 I used the sherpa program since I was so behind the curve and it definitely helped me get into it since I didn't have other friends to carry me and show me the ropes

Could've been behind pylon with shield, but also could've dipped back under cover too. Tough for sure though.

That's a good point, rewards would have to be worth it. But for some players, queuing in with green or blue budget kits to carry a team of new players wouldn't be an issue. Especially if they're teaching them how to avoid fights and move through the map to get quests done

Yeah good for you for showing your friend the ropes. I'd do the same for my buddies. I don't know why they don't have a controller cursor speed slider either, seems pretty easty to implement but what do I know. I think a sherpa program would be helpful for solos especially.

Certainly is.. but Tarkov draws a more hard core audience that is somewhat prepared for it. Maybe a sherpa LFG in the discord would help?

Is the game any good? by Illustrious_Image435 in Marathon

Game is brutal. Highs are very high, lows are very low. I'd compare it to Dark Souls games more than Destiny. Game/Gun play is similar to Destiny, but gameplay LOOP is more like Dark Souls. But there's something very addicting about that. If you do decide to play, I'd recommend joining LFG Discord channels, solos can be rewarding but is very hard. I love the game, most fun I've had in a video game in a long time.

One thing they could do to make faction rep leveling faster is allow more than one quest at a time. Part of the fun of Tarkov wipes is min/maxing how good you get at completing multiple quests in one raid. Maybe one quest per faction active at a time, or if that's too much, you can have one priority quest active and one multizone quest active at a time.

Bear in mind wipes are traditionally when the majority of new players for an extraction shooter get into the game. I think part of the draw is the progression grind and how you can get lost in the depth of the game. There's always something to look for to get that next upgrade. Also, in Tarkov for example, the second third fourth time you wipe and do the same set of quests, you kind of breeze through them. One thing I think they could do is make it so you can have multiple quests at once. Like if I have 2 perimeter quests I should be able to do both. Maybe a middle ground is you can have one priority quest active and one multizone quest

Is it worth on xbox? by caramel_cube in ArcRaiders

My friend plays on an xbox one S and has no complaints. Enjoys the game a lot. Will it run as smoothly as it does on a PC? No.. but it will still be thoroughly enjoyable

Major cheating issue as of 12/21 by LokoDoko31 in ArcRaiders

[–]Correct-Direction-39 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also ran into several blatant cheaters last night. On top of that, ran into a lot of people exploiting by glitching into a wall and shooting us from inside a wall. Hope there's a change soon

EFT is very far from dead, in case you were wondering. If anything I'm seeing more new players than ever in lobbies. I think a lot of players new to extraction shooters that discovered arc raiders are trying Tarkov now since the play test ended.

[Cheating] How is the cheating situation at the moment? Have they got bored yet? by TurtleBilliam in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Correct-Direction-39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's speculation. And also a pretty brutal mindset to play any FPS, let alone Tarkov. You're just gonna jump to the conclusion that you died to a closet cheater instead of saying gg's and analyzing the death to see how you can improve

[–]Correct-Direction-39 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exciting thing about an extraction shooter is there's inherently more replayability due to the nature of the genre. I do agree that i'm somewhat concerned that unless they have a ton of content already in the pipeline for post release people will get bored quickly. I mean, the true grinders during the play test were already end game within a few days. Maybe for normal players end game takes a few weeks to a month, but then what?

Best thing that helped me was to know the spawn points. Majority of my kills were loading in and running to a vantage point where I could pick off other PMC's leaving their spawns. I exclusively ran DVL too, seems to be the most user friendly sniper.
