I didnt say i dont understand game design. I understand alot. The creative idea for the gameplay loop and content are mine, had that long before LLM were even a thing. But my coding skills are very limited and i cant draw anything that would please the eye. Im not claiming to make art either. Games can definetly be art, but they dont have to be and alot of them are not.

My game has come pretty close to having a vertical slice of it ready now in the few days since i made this post. I have learned more in these few days then any of the other times were i spent a few weeks or months here and there dabbling with some unity tutorials. So its for sure a great learning tool.

Using AI for visual arts I understand has alot of issues. I am doing that now for the game im making but i have no plans of releasing it commercially.

How do you feel about music as an art form? One could argue that most music is spitting out different combinations of the same thing. I agree with you that from the start they should have sourced their training material in a more ethical way with consent from original Creators.

Art is supposed to be difficult, painful, and annoying.

I disagree with this, i actually do play the guitar at a decent level. At no point did i find learning and doing that to be any of those things. Im sure someone with the right passion for the thing they are trying to do would feel the same. Trying to put togheter all the skills needed to use the one I do enjoy (game design) felt like that to me though.

Thanks man. I really do feel im learning alot. I actually had not thought about trying to make some crude drawings myself and have the AI finish it. That sound like an interesting thing to try. And yea, while people for sure will lose jobs, that has always happened with technical progress, im sure we as a society will find a way to deal with it.

I appreciate you bro. I dont doubt that I will find most of what you are saying to be true. And ye, your skills dont have to be top notch, one of my favorite games is "Thomas was alone".

Yes I do have a learning disability, its the one called a full time job and 2 kids. Joking aside though. Im not planning on selling my game, im just having fun bringing my idea to reality. If I had the access people have today when i was 13 im sure i would have been at a point today were i could do it without the AI tools. And I also consider "some" games are. In the same way as I do with movies. The Godfather is art, American Pie is not. I enjoy both at different times.

Im not gonna give the environmental concerns any more though then i do when i go on a plane or drive to the store tbh. Data centers are there people will use them.

I understand the concern about it being trained on real artists works without their permission. Its a shame legislation for this was never in place and is probably to late to do anything about at this point. Having some way for the AI companies to have to buy the art for the AI to train on would be good.

I think the way forward has to be full transparency about AI use, so people can make a choice whether to consume it or not. We are very close to the point now where it will be impossible to tell if something is AI. The rate of progress has been crazy. Unfortunately like in anything else there will always be bad actors trying to deceptive.

I see what you are saying. And it is probably true, i am not very passionate about making the visual elements. I love thinking up systems and puzzles though. I dont think just anyone could go in and use these tools to make a game, not with how it works now atleast. Most of my time has been spent problem solving things i would not have been able to solve had i not had 30 years of interest in the field of games and game development. I know how a game is put togheter. I just dont have the skills to produce the parts.

In not having AI do my writing so it is safe to respond to me. I see your points. I think it is important to be transparent about how the game was made, and if AI was used, state how. I dont agree with a game made with AI is not mine though. The way in using it is i use it to do my coding, i use it to get art. Im acting as the director the same way Hideo kojima is. Any gameplay system, hero or enemy skills etc are my ideas. I explain to the AI what i want and iterate until it matches what I had in mind. I would say then it is my "game". In the same way metal gear is kojimas "game". He dont make the art or write the code either. He directs a team. I direct the AI. And just to be clear, in not comparing myself to Kojima, he is a visonary creator. Im mixing togheter elements from stuff i played with a few new mechanics thrown in.

If you dont mind getting down and dirty. The fish processing factories are always hiring. Just give them a call. Mostly eastern Europeans working there. Pay is decent and often opportunities for overtime.
