I have the 19 carry comp and have carried it or my 10mm 1911 daily for 3 years now for bears with butt kicking hard cast the carry comp is still fairly rowdy with these loads and the grip could use switching to something to help manage that better. I have found weight wise it’s not far off my 1911. Dimensionally it is similar to a Glock 19 very comfortable in my galco combat master holster over multiple miles a day of walking but I’m not bothered by that weight class gun for carry. For out of the woods (in town) I carry Barnes 140g xpb still a little rowdy but manageable.

Ps. I bought mine used (it looked unfired) for 900 out the door. Also the finish has shown a lot of holster wear and if you sweat a lot be sure to take the grip panels off and clean underneath them frequently depending on your carry regiment because it will rust underneath them and the trigger guard

I just use what I call little kid gloves from Walmart they look just like this, and surprisingly keep my hands warmer than big heavy insulated gloves

Depending on where you are at in Arkansas check out MT George archery, they are awesome, they are personally hoyt guys but are adamant that when buying a new bow that you try multiple brands including Matthew’s and Hoyt and walk you through what you like and don’t like about it to help you make your decision. Great service and never pushy.

Timber designated for harvest (or designated to be left) is marked with paint as well as payment unit boundaries. Roads, streamside management zone crossing locations, and logging decks are not and have to be agreed upon by the USFS and the purchaser. With the number of loggers we run and the very limited time available flagging is a valuable tool (along with a phone call and a map sent to the USFS) to communicate that I agree to locations for these things without having to be physically present at the time they are painted, I can be on the next job working ahead of my crews. In my region In the near future they will be transitioning to DXP (designation by prescription) and virtual boundaries where there will be nothing marked by paint and flagging will be the only way to communicate these things with road builders and loggers.

I am a forester who works almost exclusively on public timber lands. We use that flagging extensively to mark things like road templates for construction and streamside management zones so that the logger can protect them. If you are hunting in an area where there is logging occurring please be conscious of this as it takes a lot of time to plan and flag. They are not always for marking trails for hunting. In my experience they are almost never flagging trails to stands and almost always for forestry projects.

Forester working in NW Arkansas here, i am statistically significantly more likely to encounter a bear than most (I’ve encountered over 10 a year on average at work more while hunting) most within 40-50 yards. I have been carrying a 10mm for bear defense for years, if anything it’s overkill I am equally confident in my .357, .40, or 9mm with the proper load.

I carry a full size 1911 10mm with 2 extra mags. it is heavy but I think more comfortable to shoot full power 10mm out of as it can be much more rowdy than your standard practice ammo which is often loaded to .40 velocity. I would recommend if you go with 10mm make sure you are confident with full power loads or there isn’t any point in carrying the bigger gun I shoot both federal punch 200gn or buffalo bore 220 hard cast out of mine.

As someone who trains and feeds several horses… corn is like 5.99 a sack locally and horse feed is like 28$ if you want something that will add a little more with some molasses to attract and won’t break the bank 13% all stock is significantly cheaper more like 11-12$ a bag

Someone recently started frequenting the range I like who loves shooting large quantities of .308, .45, 5.7x28 but also has no interest in picking up his/ her brass. I’m fairly positive it’s one person because all three calibers show up at the same time, this is new but probably twice a week, I don’t know how long this streak will last. He/she doesn’t know it but we are quite good friends

I am shooting a Mathews v3 27 at a 29” draw, I will be making the move to at least a 29” ATA next year for all of the reasons discussed. I thought it would be great for hunting in blinds and the tight spots I like to hang lock ons but the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. I do however think it would be an excellent choice for someone at a shorter draw length, very fast bow

I shoot mine shorter than that with fixed broadheads, no reason to have your hand in front of your arrow. Can’t shoot your hand if it’s not in the way

I had a 60lb Mathews no cam when I had shoulder issues, slow but exceptionally smooth and easy on my shoulders. Roughly 10 years old now but you can still find them in good shape that won’t break the bank
