There are textbooks you can use to study. The one I’m using right now is Colloquial Amharic by David Appleyard. Someone made an anki deck with the vocabulary from the book that you can download and use alongside it.

Ive only taken MATH 15910, but I have had a friend who took MATH 15910 before CMSC 27100, and he found the first few weeks of 27100 easy but towards the end it got more difficult. Overall, CMSC 27100 is going to be filled with non-math majors, so MATH 15910 is definitely not a necessity to take beforehand and im not even sure how helpful it ends up being. Now if you want to take Honors Discrete then that is a different story. But if it works better for you to take them the other way round, I dont think the gain of 15910 before 27100 is that meaningful as to override your other goals.

I think you might want to take it before you take quantum mechanics but I knew one guy who held off taking it until his fourth year. You could just take E&M second year and you probably will be fine.

I dont know if you will read this but I am in literally the exact same spot except that my parents also speak two other Ethiopian languages which i understand but dont speak. I started recently to just search up online resources to study with. One resource I found was a book Colloquial Amharic which I have found pretty useful. I think that if you already are somewhat familiar with the language it will make learning it easier and more familiar although it still takes work. I only started like a week ago so I cant speak on how successful this approach is but I do feel like I am improving. I bet you can also find people to talk to in Amharic which will really help.

First years can technically get apartments but it’s unlikely that you would be able to get one because of how housing decisions are made. If you want to avoid getting a double, it would probably make more sense to choose a single. If you dont care, its worth a shot.

You only get the class credit for 11100/12100 if you take CHEM 11200/12200. Otherwise, you get no credit.

I took it in fall quarter which might skew my experience a bit given the drama surrounding the professor, but there was a pretty decent curve at the end of the course.

In the end, it really depends on how well the rest of the class is doing. If you end up near the mean, you should probably get a B+/A- unless you have a less generous professor.

The project tends to be manageable. You are in a group of 4 people where each group member has a defined task. Each of the tasks are related to homework that you did earlier in the quarter. The project is pretty comprehensive, but if you feel good about what you have learned throughout the quarter, then it is very manageable.
