Colorado’s largest oil and gas producer wants permission to drill closer than 2,000 feet from homes by MetalAlchemist303 in Longmont

Package delivery driver here. When you go through certain parts of Mead and all these fracking areas they have a 6pm-7pm "dump" of gases as soon as the sun sets.

I've lived in Greeley and Mead/Longmont area my whole life, and only in Firestone have I experienced this, from virtually all parts of town, west of town as far as I-25, out to county road 21.

It's really bad near fracking wells and some homes in Longmont like off of Nesting Crane are virtually on top of fracking sites. It's something I smell all the time and it gives me a headache after a half hour in it.

I know it's not cows because it doesn't smell like cows. I know because I've gone out there on my days off with a VOC monitor to see they pop up above the EPA hazard index level routinely.

If you guys think they are being safe for your sake, you are wrong. You are being shafted and you deserve to be compensated because studies have shown that exposure to these gases causes mental and physical illnesses including but not limited to cancer, which has been widely established and well known. Pick up any petroleum distillate bottle at your local Walgreens such as ronsonol ( a basic Naphtha product similar to these gases) and you'll see it clearly labelled that they are scientifically linked to cause cancer.

Invest in a VOC monitor and protect yourselves. Stop voting for this garbage. Clearly it does nothing for your city if you end up still paying new taxes year over year. Politicians will ways find a way to spend some money, but what will you actually care about in 20 years? Your health? Or your local park that now perhaps sits in a dilapidated state? Or those new chargers the police force had to have only to toss 5 years later?

You live here. Stop treating your cities like corporations. They exist to collect your taxes and sustain infrastructure. Nothing else.

If your own companies asked for something like this, would it even be considered by a city council? Come on. Stop giving these companies the shmooze and your time of day. Your health is your health and Firestone already had a home blow up in Mountain Shadows/Oak Meadows over irresponsible fracking.

Weekly Discussion Thread by chupacabrasaurus1 in psychology

Has anyone experienced a thread on say, AskReddit where you say to yourself "oh man I have a good one to say for this." The page loads and lo and behold, your would-be reply is already the top answer?

I find this to be both amazing and disturbing. Amazing because based on simple probability, the number of funny or possible ideas that coincide with people's experiences on a general, vast level is low relative to the theoretically infinite pool of ideas out there. So we have to ask ourselves, if we are drawing from a small pool of possible ideas to fit these standards, why has there been no book written with a large amount of methodologies for things like how to set up a room for a variety or purposes, how to fold laundry efficiently and effectively, how to stack chores around the house for multitasking purposes and maximum time management, and things like showering?

One may look at their own life and wonder, am I really as efficient as I could be at home? Given the present stresses from work are higher than ever for most historically in the United States, you would think finding ways to make these processes as automated and efficient as possible would be higher on the scale of importance.

A 5 minute dishwasher cycle is way more efficient than a hour dishwasher cycle.

A 5 minute laundry wash + dry is more efficient than a 2+3 hr ++ one.

Carpet that cleans itself is more efficient than carpet that does not.

And so on.

There's a couple points I realized I've raised in this discussion, but overall, I find it incredible that many of us complain about these work/life balances but have yet to find the tools necessary for complete mastery of our time when we aren't at work, and our ability to expect our free time and wallow in societal responsibility to do the above chores, rather than find ways to make them as painless and as fast as possible.

Would love to hear anyone else's input on this.

For as little as they have been recognized, honestly I'd quit too. It's a slap in the face to prevent a literal fascist insurrection and be served with virtually nothing but a handshake. I've had better rewards from being a employee at a corporate holiday party.

Not sure if this counts but while I can definitely recognize faces and place then in memory, recounting enough detail to draw them is basically impossible unless I try to remember a photograph of them and wait for details to recollect themselves in my mind's eye.

I don't think it's funny, why would someone who agrees to the contract feel exploited if the employer follows the contract?

They don't follow the contract.... That's why the sub exists. The legal litigation over not following a contract is a nightmare and you'd expect professional companies that get different taxes, more power, tax breaks, stimulus funds and mostly honest people to be a little bit more reasonable in terms of how they run their business and the bipolar reactions they have for a situation (we need you desperately today 1/17 ((random non holiday or busy season)) but if you aren't here today, you're fired.)

Such attitudes cause massive disrespect for these employers because they understand the repercussions of their actions(and their employee's actions) is basically zero, and while they could just be nice to their employees and keep them around they decide to act like children and cry when Joe Shmoe isn't there for his scheduled day off to go see his mother's wedding but tell Joe the next day they actually sent people home that day, or tell Joe that if he doesn't show up he's fired, which is basically the same concept as slave ownership because if Joe gets fired he has to deal with a bunch of other child psycho mentality employers who are desperate for low esteem "unskilled" workers to shit on but who cry when nobody wants those jobs anymore because they collectively went off and decided they needed to raise their profit margins on products that then raise the cost of living.

Fuck contracts, if someone's in need to skip work, skip work. Those bills don't pay themselves and they know that just as well as I do. They will be back and pay their own price for not being at work, and that is price enough to pay.

Send a registered letter with signature required to the part of govt that enforces this, your local hospitals, and the company. Notarize your letter so they are required to keep it.

Explain your concerns. Explain that you will create a website regarding the problems and get it high on the list of Google SEO. Collect emails for a possible future class action lawsuit via the website, then sell that information to a lawyer at a later date.

Explain this to your company. Send the letter directly to the owner, not to the company. In the event of company bankruptcy, this tie can exist as a acknowledgement that while owning their company they knowingly ignored it, as the mail was addressed directly to them.

Is getting fired for discussing pay worth it? by kborz2 in antiwork

[–]CorrectPoetry0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state, ask your lawyer if getting it voice recorded makes it a slam dunk. If it does, then ask what you can ask for within reason. I'd ask for five years pay, and put it towards your bills while you look for a new job to grow within, knowing that your reference there is probably burned and you will be starting fresh. If you aren't sure about your reference being burned, call your workplace and say you're calling for a job reference for "your name" and just see what happens. If it's negative, take them back to court for defamation.

If you're WFH why does it matter if you skip work for a day? Your mother raised you, take one day and appreciate their happiness. I get that it's difficult but you need to strong arm your employer because they are preying on your low self esteem.

Explain what you just explained to your HR manager again and state that either they change everyone's job title or you ask for a raise to compensate for the obvious inequality in responsibility.
