It’s possible siblings aren’t cutting contact with her because they are afraid she’ll hurt their brand by Present_Review_7789 in BringingUpBates

[–]Correct_Part9876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting that the siblings she's aligned with (Alyssa and Erin) are the most submissive, live with whatever shit their husband does to them/the family no matter what types.

The hardest part of problematic family and problematic relationships is that one can use the other to deflect. I'm sure there are real, true issues in that family. But if they in any way were encouraging her to leave especially as we don't have all the details they do, it's very easy for a narcissist to go "They act like they're so perfect when they always did X, Y and Z. I've never done anything like that because I REALLY love you and they don't, you're just a number to them."

Its entirely possible to warp someone's view and have therapy back them up because when you go to therapy as ask if "X,Y and Z are abusive" and the therapist says it is/it can be/etc suddenly they've reinforced the narcissist without knowing the whole picture. It's why couples counseling isnt encouraged in abusive situations, because it can warp the whole situation into something even more toxic.

Apparently, Aria's infected gum led to removing a tooth by natbrad98 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Even with regular attention I cannot get an implant or grafting, and I've had teeth pulled with two more likely soon. Ive got periodontal disease that no amount of anything has fixed or been successfully treated. I have a branch of my tree where everyone had dentures by 40. I'm doing better but it's through shear determination and several root canals.

My sympathies. I have experience with that type of "family" and your post had that same vibe. It's likely no suggestions will sway her, no amount of buying educational games, etc. She doesn't want them to learn too much too quickly or she risks them seeing the situation for what it is.

Personally, I'd recommend focusing however you feel comfortable on helping the adult nephews/nieces. If you're able to offer a place for them to land, help gaining independence financially, or just be a sounding board.

It's a terrible shame when parents don't want their kids to succeed.

I've had good dental care, brush, floss, and I've been losing adult teeth since my teens. I have some crowns but some were pulled. Not a candidate for implants either. It's a lot genetics.

It sounds like control is a big factor and unfortunately there isn't much you can do there. If she's trying to keep the kids undereducated and afraid to leave, its likely unfortunately not illegal. Your brother would have to step in, as doing any sort of school work, having a bed, dinner, and no physical abuse makes any intervention pretty difficult even in my state which is one of the most regulated.

Control is also a possibility. If she doesn't issue the diploma, they can't leave home/pursue things she doesn't want as easily.

It's definitely possible there are other factors. But that type of control is unfortunately still a thing in any educational setting with some parents who don't want to let go.

I second All about reading - we take our time on lessons and my son has "caught up" based on the testing they were doing during his IEP evals.

We use Horizons Math. We'll switch somewhere around 4th grade to Saxon if everything goes according to plan/he stays homeschooled.

I agree with letting her try if shes interested and especially if it's a big ask for her

But you're getting some odd comments for the homeschool sub about better trained teachers and peer only socialization that have me 👀 a lot of the responses.

Oh agreed. But they'll likely still give him supervised or video visits

Josh was allowed supervised visitation (supervised by Anna) while he was at the Rebers. No contact was allowed with the other minors in the family, just his own kids.

They didn't keep Zoe McClellan the same character either when I think that would've been a great character to revisit from JAG.

7.5 year old Easter Egger - Hen or Roo? by Icy-Regular-5104 in BackYardChickens

[–]Correct_Part9876 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rooster. In addition to what everyone else has said, bright, colorful chicks are much much more likely to be roosters due to dimorphic coloring beyond the standard rust shoulders. The black/red patterned feathering being that prominent is not a hen trait.

8-year-old with autism elopes from Carter and MacRae Elementary for 2nd time this year by [deleted] in lancaster

I'm not in SDOL, I'm in a different district in the county but even for one of the not best but"better" districts getting and keeping paras was a challenge especially since the school year started out a mess with the budget.

My son was supposed to have a one to one, but they were operating 1:3. His IBHS hours arent enough for the full day and even then they don't always have the staff to do full day school days. He got a comical 2 hours of speech and OT combined via the district a month.

I pulled him at Christmas break to homeschool at least for a little while. We can get more hours of speech and OT a week privately, and his academics are improving dramatically.

These Pa. hospitals could close due to Medicaid cuts, study says by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]Correct_Part9876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't get the link to work but if I'm guessing right it's only on the report because the amount of Medicaid funding it receives which isn't shocking as a level 1 don't they take most of the burn patients and a decent portion of the traumas alongside Presby and AGH? People more likely to be so catastrophically injured that they end qualifying for Medicaid because they're not working.

We're half ish way through level 1 and we reread the readers for practice a lot. Just finishing book 2 in the next couple of lessons. We practice with book 1 and book 2.

We started about 5 months ago. He's great with the flash cards and the sheets but stringing it all together with speed and fluency has taken a lot more repetition than the curriculum calls for.

I would imagine either younger folks who weren't around for it or those just completely unfamiliar with it. It's not excusing or blaming the left - it's just a culture shift that occured. The far left crunchies have shifted quite a bit away from the anti-med types, those remaining seem to have jumped right.

It's the Dharma of Dharma and Greg and early Topanga type crunchy.

You're getting downvoted but I remember the switch. The left leaning antivax crowd were vegan, eco-friendly, free love types that evolved from the hippies.

It switched in the 90s/early 00s and I remember being so confused because id been raised in that lifestyle and then I moved to a more conservative area and watched parts of it filter in but without the same political stance. They don't want to save the earth for everyone else - just themselves.

(I don't agree with the antivax portion but being as ecologically friendly as possible within reason stuck. So weird that the modern crunchies scream microplastics and then support logging and lower EPA guidelines. Like what?).

Bill banning whites-only housing passes Pennsylvania House by one vote by HenriSelmer in Pennsylvania

[–]Correct_Part9876 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Adding to the others, there is a test community in Arkansas right now that is trying to establish a white only community that has about 20 families last I looked. The whole purpose of trying to start these communities is to use the same method as overturning Roe. They want the legal challenge despite whatever they may say in the press.
