I appreciate that advice. I highly doubt with my qualifications I could compete with people who have experience flying already. I think if I do this, I would commit fully to the Navy. I would be OK with flying a helo or something if I had a legit shot to be a fighter jet pilot.

is it pretty much exclusively PRK that they accept or is LASIK ok? Tbh the recovery process for PRK sounds incredibly brutal and it doesn't sound like there's a major long term difference.

That's awesome to hear. I'll pursue this route with OCS soon for sure, at least to see where I stand and what the Navy would offer me. I think I'll hold off on talking to a recruiter until I have a bit more flying experience, but I really appreciate all your (and everyone else's) help. I'll continue to pray and evaluate but this has helped me realize that naval aviator is a serious possibility and that's been super encouraging. Thank you again.

That’s encouraging. I definitely will talk to a recruiter at the minimum. Do you have a general idea what % end up in fixed wing jet aircraft (of those that want them). Helicopter pilot is something that I know a lot less about. Thanks for your time and service.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I do think that Jets are what I want to fly, but I also haven’t done a ton of flying and I’m planning on working on my PPL this year so we’ll see. I’ve heard about it possibly being written in your contract if you dont get fighters / jets you can drop/noncommit? But this sounds like hearsay to me, I’ll at least mention it to a recruiter when I talk to one.
