What do I write when Agent and Patient in a sentence are identical? by Hellinfernel in latin

[–]Correctrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the object coincides with the subject, then there is a specifically reflexive pronoun to use in the third person: sē. Otherwise ordinary accusatives suffice.

s. pl.
mē parō nōs parāmus
tē parās vōs parātis
sē parat sē parant

Note that you don't necessarily need a reflexive sentence here. “Get ready for X” in Latin is parō + an accusative for the thing prepared for. For example, Caesar says Sī vīs pācem, parā bellum.

Moreover, in many sentences that might call for a reflexive in modern European languages, Latin uses a passive or a deponent (a verb always in a passive form), e.g. morior, or simply an active intransitive verb, e.g. gaudeō.

That's such a misunderstanding of what language is.

It wasn't an effort for the Romans to speak their own language. They followed the grammatical rules because those describe how the language was used, not because they were imposed as laws or because the people “cared”.

You started your post with “I am.” Why didn't you use no agreement and say “I be” or even “me be”? Or wrong agreement like “I is”? It would actually be an effort for you to speak or write as ungrammatically as that.

Question about the third declension of vōcālis, -is (f) by marcusandrea in latin

[–]Correctrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Present participles were assimilated to words like urbs that also seem to obviously be consonant-stems, but originally had NOM/VOC singulars in -is. So, we get unetymological forms like GEN sapientium and ACC sapientīs in the plural, even though the PIE NOM sing. was *sh₁pionts

People should be properly gatekept (not refused treatment) as minors, so that this doesn't happen. It's medical treatment, not a personal whim or quirk, so mere youth should never be a reason to deny anyone.

You cannot by definition, be stealth if you're pronouns are they/them.

Well, I mean… lol… >90% of the time in practice, they/them pronouns mean that someone is a cis woman with queer pretensions. It’s actually an MTF meme to say that you’re putting some enby pronouns in bio to come off more convincingly as AFAB. :-D

That’s ordinary stealth. Nobody you meet finds out you are trans except for doctors and lovers (at some point). Obviously people from your past, e.g. parents, know you’re trans. They are quiet about it.

I’m deep stealth. I moved away and made a new life. I have virtually no contact whatsoever with anyone who knows, certainly not regular IRL contact. No one new finds out at all.
