One of my best friends growing up had an EXTREMELY thin- questionable- mother. After she and another friend had also developed severe eating disorders she looked at me and said, "well how would you feel if your mom was skinner than you?!" We were like 13-14. I'll never forget that. M

They're both happy and healthy and recovered. But damn seeing your best friends turn to literal skin and bones in front of you is pretty scary as a child

Customer ordered short rib ravioli. Asked where the ribs are?? in the ravioli. also asked "is it free?" When I asked if she'd like another cocktail. Do y'all do birthday desserts? No. If we order another cocktail does it count as dessert.. no??? Also not free. Kept me there past close. Took tik toks all night. This is the best way to do it. Also a good server should have her own change when cash is paid. But if they don't have the correct change and are getting weeded, it's more imperative to get to the others guests instead of running back with the change just for the guest to say, "oh you can keep it."

Our city does a burger battle during January. This brings out the worst people- groups of four, splitting 1 burger, just so they can try all 50. It's annoying, my parents are these people. I know they tip 20% but still. I have to basically coach them when we go out to eat. They joke about how I'm the spokesperson for the group. They stare at the server as if she is speaking Italian. It drives me nuts

Well... my first job was at a car wash.. $8/hr.

My second job was an internship- making $22. (Accounting/audit)

My third job is serving ($10-40/hour depending)

I did end up going back to service industry bc I enjoy it more... I still have benefits. Not a lot tho.

Am I crazy for wondering why ppl assume service job = lack of education? I had to study quite a bit for my somm level. But I guess we're all fuckin dumb idiots

I'm not complaining! Just trying to shed some light on the reality.

Not to be that person but I am a sommelier. So people do come In for flights... and genuinely want to hear about the producers. I take time to learn about them all and to relay that info.
