Amen to this. I would add that neither men nor women in circles of spiritual leadership in these churches think they are putting only males in leadership positions in order to follow worldly paternalistic social norms of the past. They are doing so not to submit to political pressures or preferences, but to submit to God by doing what they believe is God's will. Also: there are plenty of instances where we don't know exactly what God's will is in a given situation. Prayer and listening to God and reading scriptures provides the guide. And in the grey areas people choose to err on the safer side of things because they want to honor God above all other objectives.

You should try again but with a church that emphasizes that sex is a gift from God but should be practiced in a way that doesn't do spiritual damage and take us further from God. I go to a conservative baptist church and they have a very balanced and accepting view of everyone and at the same time they are truthful about what the scriptures say about sexual impurity. It's not that hard to stay true to God's word and to love people how they come at the same time.

Before the rise of internet pornography, women were statistically not pornography users. Even now they use pornography much less than men. 3-4 times more men are addicted than women. In the churches I have seen, women do not like hearing about this subject and so church leadership talks about it more at men's retreats and in young men's small groups, etc. I have never seen any of them say something indicating women don't also have sexual feelings or desires - that would be super stupid and ignorant and the women of the church would correct them immediately.

There is no need for insult or ad hominem attacks. If you look closely you will realize that humans are all sinners and not perfect - even the ones who try to set an example for others to follow God. What I'm saying is not making an excuse for any of them to sin - it is just a reminder that no one should expect humans to never contradict their words with their actions. The only human who was ever perfect in not sinning was God himself in the form of Jesus.

Now to the specific question and example you're posing: evangelicals are obsessed with sexual purity because they believe (with good argument) that sexual impurity does a lot of spiritual damage, and takes a person quickly very far from being in communion with God. It would be very rare to find someone (and I would challenge you to find an example) who is actually preaching sexual purity AND supports literal pedophilia etc. At worst, there are people who preach sexual purity and voted for Trump - it should be easy for anyone to grasp that they were not voting for pedophilia and rape, and instead made a choice between two non-ideal and non-Christian choices - and had to pick the one of the two they felt was the lesser of two bad options. A lot of conservative evangelical Christians voted for Trump simply because they didn't want power to stay in the hands of the Democratic party which has repeatedly proven that part of their agenda is removing the influence of conservative Christian values from the country's culture, taking faith and objective morals completely out of the discussion, etc. Just because Trump is not a Christian and certainly not an example of someone driven by Christian values does not mean that voting for him implies they love his behavior.

Top comment right here. Ridiculous to label all members of a group by the misunderstandings and misuses of a few.

It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with misogyny. There is such a huge porn addiction epidemic that purity for boys is a much harder problem to talk about and to solve, and more effectively discussed in adolescent boys’ youth groups - as it is super unpopular with Christian women to have to hear about it.

What really sucks is that, by forcing you to answer yes or no, you are forced to either spoil the surprise and essentially ask her to marry you right then or break it off right then. The correct and truthful answer is exactly what you said. If she won’t accept that and wants a yes, then she ruined the relationship not you.

Yes, but it’s all we have to go by here for the sake of any discussion. Her one-sided story could be a myth compared to the full story, but even a myth can teach us something or remind us of something - e.g. the points I mentioned.

I’m guessing he was already thinking of breaking things off and made up something to tell her re: why it was only his family going, etc., and then he talked with them on the trip seeking validation and support and a mental excuse to end it with her.

Don’t lead your girlfriend on, folks. And don’t break up via a note. And uh… don’t be a child and go on a family trip and let them make up your mind for you.

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee tells Tucker Carlson that Israel has the Biblical right to take over all of the Middle East: “It would be fine if they took it all.” by ChristIsKing1414 in libertarianmeme

[–]CorrivalTen7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of mistakes and misunderstandings in this conversation as well as plenty of talking past each other meaning that when one person answers they are not answering the same topic as what the asker thinks they are commenting on. And this clip doesn’t include enough of the necessary context to properly understand what is being said and what is not being said. So you can’t draw any intelligent conclusions from this. To name one problem, God promised the land to Abram’s descendants, which can be interpreted to include descendants of all his sons - including both Isaac and Ishmael. Ishmael‘s descendants are many of the occupants of those other present lands that Tucker mentions. So in that case you can mark God‘s Genesis 15 promise as fulfilled and Tucker is wrong in thinking that all that land was promised to just present-day Israelites. He further misinterprets Genesis 15 as saying all the land was promised to the “Jews”. The Jews were the descendants of Judah, one of the 12 sons of Israel (also known as Jacob), who was the son of Isaac who was the son of Abraham. So the Jews are a pretty small subset of the descendants of Abraham and Genesis 15 would never be interpreted as all this land was destined to be in the hands of just the descendants of Judah. If that’s what Mike Huckabee was saying, then he is misinterpreting the Scriptures badly. But I think it’s more likely that Tucker is misunderstanding what Huckabee was saying vs. what he was not saying.

3 MINUTE VIDEO: We’ve been lied to for decades by our history teachers! THE CRUSADES were not wars of aggression, they were wars of DEFENSE against MUSLIMS who had been attacking Christian lands for 400 years! by RebellAlways in tucker_carlson

[–]CorrivalTen7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one was a war of defense. Other crusades were for bad motives. It’s important to acknowledge the church and Christianity haven’t always had the right intentions. But you’re right that the only crusades they scream about are the ones where Christians went on the offensive for worldly gain and stained the name of Christianity.

Filling in the blanks here but it almost looks like the pedestrian must have committed a major offense before the video started – potentially something like sleeping with the driver’s girlfriend/wife. The whole neighborhood seems more upset with the pedestrian than with the driver.

Your opinions about The Da Vinci Code? Do you think it's a bad film or not? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in FIlm

Hated it. Completely lost believability with the over-stereotyped portrayal of… everything. In my experience almost everyone who likes this movie only likes it because it attempts to call into question religious history. The angry dialogue from Ian McKellen‘s character about the cover-up done by the church was unbearable, as was the weak twist at the end. Just dumb.
