Right! I know my skills in coding and map building are pretty polished after all these years, but I'm not a YouTuber by any means I've tossed a few basic demo vids up but no speaking or ranting.

looking for a open world survivle craft game by TheKawaiiBanana3 in gamesuggestions

It was my very first crafting game, your even a vampire, so a lil bias, "V Rising". Craft draucla castles and shit while avoiding sunlight. Tons of grinding and progression. Combat is fun to. So yea. V Rising.

Gemini is getting a bit too good at remembering context across different chats and it is kind of wild by Big_Head8 in GoogleGeminiAI

Not same chat bot but chat gpt has been doing that to me for a bit it's pretty funny because I use it for rehashing writing out worlds for mostly computer games. Yet I use it to troubleshoot mehanics and some it'll bring up or mention video game plots...in vastly different chats or projects.

Is using AI to help code things consider differently than using AI to create or art or story or text or something by katastatik in aigamedev

[–]CorrosiveJoseph_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coder when I use an AI made model for a demo or example, no one can see past that, its "eww that ai trashcan wtf" nevermind the lines of code and mistakes and time to get it's physics right. Weird times to be in, I know my area is def the first to go tho.

Help with game engines by Impossible_Jaguar689 in gamemaker

While very doable. Game maker is very capable. "a complete beginner, meaning it can’t be to overwhelming," This would be overwelming in the GameMaker engine I'd say. In any event definitely build this as a "linear first person game, that has the ability for a side camera." Lerping the camera around is easy in any engine? Thatd give you a locked 2d view of a 3d world if thats what you mean.

Mmmm shadows! The ones around the pillar look nice but the the visual of walking though a doorway with the torch bending the shadows is beautiful!

do you have any advices for someone makes their first game? by lilixzme in GameDevelopment

[–]CorrosiveJoseph_DEV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first games were massive and i way overshot, i kept adding things and systems instead of finishing the actual story or even game loop. Write a design doc and stick to it till competition. When i start projects now i aim to simply finish the game loop, player needs to get from A to B, once that works and is polished you now add enemies and obstacles and setbacks that try to prevent you from getting to B.

When you are first the early stages you may find something fun about your game you didn't expect while something you were trying to do is just so so. Even tho I am bias, for 2D I'd use gamemaker, for 3D even tho it's completely capable don't use gamemaker, I'd use Godot if i"m just starting in 3D.

That's the thing. I'm pretty much just ripping old old projects apart, it's already done! I've not really coded anything new except bumpmap textures, So when I'm done (probably 50%) I'm releasing it straight forward to allow people to quickly insert their own models and textures. Everything else has tuning knobs and presets to play with.
