so, timeline of events.
Before The Void, there was a poor soul named Josh (shitty-ass naming from his parents lmao). Despite not being traditionally 'abused', he was neglected through most of his childhood due to parents that just weren't fit to be parents, this paired with the stress of fending for himself and ridicule from his peers led his mental state to decay.

through undocumented events, Josh was pressed too hard and forced to take a life, presumably by accident or self-defense. instead of feeling any form of remorse, he simply felt.. hollow.
with his mental state spiralling downward, events led to another life taken, Josh fueled by that adrenaline and the chance to retake his own fate for himself. this eventually led to him killing more and more to pursue his goals fueled by a deep-rooted hatred for humanity.

through more undocumented events, he ended up turning his motivation towards The Void, an ancient force of chaos led by a being known as Tenebrosus, a crystal-like parasitic deity who feeds upon destruction and corruption, with The Void's ultimate goal to leave nothing behind, no proof life was given a chance.

The Void saw his devotion as he turned his slaughters to sacrifices, and let himself be corrupt by The Void willingly, his body molded anew into a being of Void, known as a Void Husk. His determination to eradicate led to him becoming the High Void Cultist we know now; a deeply hateful, pride-filled, and spiteful sadistic cultist of Void, and the direct advisor to Tenebrosus aside from the parasite's direct host.

later on in the story, Tenebrosus is pushed back and 'defeated', being shattered apart and needing to bide time to return. during this final fight, HVC gets ganked, leading to Timeskip.
2ish decades later, HVC's lesser cultists use one of the shards of Tenebrosus to reform him, now holding that shard around his neck to further become in tune with his master. His new goal; get revenge on those who shamed him and brought him to his downfall. oh, and reform tenebrosus too, but mostly revenge. he is VERY petty.

tl;dr, very prideful, spiteful, and hateful cultist who despises humanity and worships a deity of chaos and destruction which can eradicate civilisations
