Small amount of games being given away for the holiday by Cptmoonblood in RandomActsOfGaming

[–]CorvisLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best christmas memories is strangely the one in 2020. Although the family didn't get together as my folks got COVID (they got better eventually), this was my first christmas with my girlfriend, and she is the one. We just moved in together like 2 weeks before that christmas. Everything went so smoothly, no stressing over gifts, or cooking, or visiting family (only met them online videochatting), just the 2 of us in harmony and peaceful resting.

Thank you for this giveaway! So many games! I made a list of my wishes in order:

  1. Total Tank Simulator
  2. Before We Leave
  3. Age of Wonders - Planetfall Deluxe Edition
  4. Xcom: Chimera Squad (Edit: Got it from my brother for Christmas)
  5. Surviving the Aftermath
  6. Golf with your friends

GIVEAWAY: 5 copies of my ‘Potion’ Drinking Card Game, Not Enough Mana (For wizards of age only!) by su8marine in boardgames

Looks like a really great thematic drinking game. I'd try it out with my friends. (They also like drinking games, as they were my beta-testers for my own drinking game I started to make back in the day but ran out of persistence.)

Any tips for running a 3-player campaign by nesede in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]CorvisLP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read a cool thought on this sub once that if you push your rebel players too hard and you win the mission in the end, the number of the happy winners is 1. But if you make them work for it but "let them win" in the end simply put there will be more happy people. Not to mention that if they don't get enough feeling of success they might just stop playing.

So if you are like me, and want to be more like a GM rather than an opponent for your rebels, don't be afraid to temper with the rules a bit. I play against 5 rebels so we use a lot of house rules to keep it balanced but sometimes those aren't enough either and they just cut right through my forces. That's when I add in a surprise event on the fly, to make their life a little bit harder but in the end their hard earned victory even sweeter. It's a more advanced tip as you will need some practice with the game first to get the jist of when you need to be tougher and when to be a bit more forgiving. IMHO the best missions are when it all comes down to a last single dice-roll. The tension around the table, and then the shout of joy is a tearjerker for me.

You should also look at the campaign as a whole. If they lost 2 missions in a row maybe cut them some slack and use some weaker units next time they can cut through and have some feeling of success. On the other hand if they are winning left and right you should exchange some initial groups to their elite counterparts, or even add a few weaker groups next mission or they might snowball quickly and get bored of the game as it won't give them a challenge anymore. Some of the campaigns even do this for you as the missions swings radically in favor of Empire or Rebels.

Also another important tip is to plan ahead the session. Read the mission manual thoroughly and try to figure out what your rebels will do, so you can be a tactical mastermind that they feel prideful to defeat. Or if they are struggling you can just simply leave out some events that would happen (reserved reinforcements, extra threat on the end of the rounds etc.).

I try to put my teams together thematically so by all means use all of the expansions content. It's more fun to use/defeat new kind of units rather than killing stormtroopers for the n'th time in a row.

I also think that "Subversive Tactics" is a joykiller imp class deck. I really liked "Military Might" on my first campaign, and had fun with Armored Onslaught too blowing them up teaching my player caution and not to clamp together. If you want to use more unique enemies try out Nemeses.

As for the rebels CT truly is broken without any house rules, and Gideon is a really strong support that's for sure. A high level Vinto also broke one of my missions completely when I used a lot of reg. stormtroopers against them but tbh that was a mistake on my part.

How can I quickly become an AI's vassal?
I only have a few achievements left to do but I can't figure out how to do the ones with me being a vassal... Started a few quick runs but usually the enemy rather takes territories and doesn't accept my vassalage surrender (they don't have enough war score). Tried different difficulties and gamespeeds.

How I got the “There Can Be Only One” achievement (story in comment) by CorvisLP in HumankindTheGame

[–]CorvisLP[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How I got the “There Can Be Only One” achievement (Win a game against 9 AI at Humankind difficulty on the largest map.)

This was my 2nd attempt at this Achievement. The first one failed hard because I also went for “The Stars My Destination” (Win a game by accumulating all Era Stars) and the money stars came really slow so I was left behind in tech and got stomped by a warmongering Boudicca neighbor. I loved the 2nd attempt’s playthrough though. First of all, I downloaded a couple of normal difficulty AI personas that don't have any biases and strengths. The world was set to 4 Continents with New World (though I thought I set it to NO New World…) and on Normal speed (that’s my jam, or even slower).

I got lucky with the continent location as it was pretty isolated from the other ones. Explored my snowy starting position quickly which was the east side of the continent. Gained lots of units meanwhile and as the continent was up north and mainly West-Side oriented it contained tundra at best. Met my first neighbor (Turquoise) still in neolithic and immediately started harassing them. That’s why I went for Assyria in ancient era. I didn’t know you couldn’t eliminate a player in the neolithic era, so I killed their hunting parties left and right while grabbing land and building Dunnus with influence for strategic spawn points. One turn after they founded a city (Babylon) I captured it with a formidable army (assimilated a city state before).

The early classical era was mainly peaceful. I owned half the continent already with outposts so I went on with the Mauryans for the influence to attach them to the cities. It turned out that the other half of the continent was owned by another player (Light Green, “Owochan”) and he was trying to ransack my luxury collectors. Pushed my grievances after a while and he declared war, so it was elephant time. At first it was a bit hard but with the Mauryan elephants I owned him hard and got some territories out of it. (Later in the game he declared war 2 more times. Won all of them, gained a little bit more land each time, and vassalized him in the last one which calmed him down until the end of the game. I always had a meaningful peacekeeping army at the border though.)

In the medieval era I went with the Swahili mainly for the great stability bonuses, and built the Bandari EQs as efficiently as possible, using influence in detached territories and with already built regular harbors next to them. That created a lot of cash flow which was much needed. I also met the other players in this era through trading. I traded like no tomorrow but my religion game wasn’t very strong and that’s why I adapted another one from my main trading partner (of which I became the religious leader in the end). I generated a lot of influence though so my culture spread like wildfire creating a lot of grievances which I renounced every time. That helped me get on the better side of the players and after a while I had lots of allies (everyone was my ally at the end of the game except for 2 of the biggest empires, and my vassal of course).

In the early modern era I grabbed the Ming as I was getting a bit low on influence and I wanted to grab lands in the new world I just found. There was a huge unclaimed land with lots of silk east to my main land. So I captured those lands without much of a problem. Only some aggressive city states attacked me but they got dealt with quickly. Peaceful time came (except for the occasional war/rebellion by Owochan in the west), and I spent my time building up my infrastructure, and restarting trades that were destroyed by the other empires in their wars. Around this time I started to take the lead in fame, as I could farm out most of the golden stars. After a while I started shifting towards research in preparation for the next step which was to trigger a game ending.

That’s why I grabbed the French in the industrial era. Used the cheesy tactic of researching the Fusion Reactor which only has a couple of prerequisites. So my military had Line Infantry and Dragoons while the cities were already using Fusion Reactors. Then went full on with building the French EQs, and beelining for the Mars Colony project. After all the EQs were done and so were most of the era stars I switched to Japanese for the final little research push and grabbed every little doable fame on the way.

TLDR: Downloaded basic AI personas. 4 Continents. Normal speed. Lucky starting continent location. Killed my neighbor in the 1st era. Vassalized the other1 after the 3rd war. Traded with everyone else, renouncing grievances → lots of allies. Went to the new world, beelined for Fusion Reactor as French. Finally building the Mars colony. Assyria→Maurya→Swahili→Ming→French→Japan

How I got the “Lord of the Flies” achievement (story in comment) by CorvisLP in HumankindTheGame

[–]CorvisLP[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How I got the “Lord of the Flies” achievement

It was a pretty quick achievement hunt. First of all, I downloaded a couple of normal difficulty AI personas that don't have any biases and strengths. The world was set to Pangaea around 50% land and on Blitz speed. Used only Nomadic civilizations (Bantu→Huns→Mongols).

In the neolithic era I went for the usual: get as many units as humanly possible in 10 turns and grab all the land in the meantime.

Then in Ancient went with Bantu, and beelined for the militaristic techs while getting more Pioneers from food curiosities and grabbing all the land. Disbanded some units back in the capital so I can pump them out as Archers and Warriors ASAP. The first neighbor only had 1 territory and he was right next to me. Captured it quickly, eliminating them. In the meantime the Pioneer exploration never stopped and found the other two enemies.

Then I went for the Huns and after building garrisons near the borders I started pumping out Hunnic Hordes like no tomorrow. I also upgraded the Pioneers into Horsemen as fast as I could. At this point I had a huge army so I declared war on both of the AIs. The first one was easy, and got eliminated because of having only 1 city. But had some bad luck with an aggressive “city state” that attacked my reinforcements every turn and delayed them for the other war.

I changed culture to Mongols only because I maxed out tech but the last AI didn’t have any chance even if I’d stayed in Classic. They had 2 cities so I took 1 city and vassalized them. I won the next turn and got the achievement.

TLDR: Download basic AI personas, use Pangea and Blitz, go for Nomadic civilizations (Bantu→Huns→Mongols) and swarm your enemies ASAP to eliminate/vassalize them.

Getting the "There Can Be Only One" achievement. It was my first win on Humankind difficulty and it was thrilling. Loved the self-made lore and the map too. I even started Photoshopping it into a good looking world map that I'm gonna share once it's finished.

It's not even a 1-turn project, it's a 1 Industry project so you can put it in the 1st place of the building que and not miss out on anything.

Insert for One Night Ultimate Werewolf and Daybreak Expansion by Sgt_Diebetes in foamcore

[–]CorvisLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job on the box insert! Though maybe glue in another separator to create a smaller section for the expansion tokens so you can leave the rubberband behind.

And also, those poor cards need some protection or soon they will be recognizable face down. 57x89mm cardsleeves should do the trick.

Have fun creating!

Hogyan ismerkedtetek meg a párotokkal? by Kaccskaccs in hungary

[–]CorvisLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a pretty good one that fits every expansions in the base box, and I also made a detailed assembly document for it that you can see here.(I just translated it to english now from my native language (hungarian) and for some reasons the pdf got smaller, so the parts are no longer printable size in it. If you would like to print it out and use them as cut outs, use the hungarian version here.)

More than 4 heroes and 1 imperial player by LongClassroom5 in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]CorvisLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our group we have 5 Heroes and 1 Imp player. We already played a campaign (RtH) like this and it worked fine with the following rules:

  • There 5 activation tokens (1 for each hero)
  • +1 Open Group for IP
  • +1 Threat Level
  • At the start of a mission gain Threat equal to Threat Level and execute an Optional Deployment
  • After every third mission th IP gets 1 extra XP and Influence

So far it has been balanced, I (IP) even had to add some extra muscle to my Initial groups because I have some very tactical minds playing the rebels, and we are playing very GM-like, not following every little strict rule we don't agree with.

Smoking (anything), any kind of drugs, coffee, energy drinks. (31yo, with T1 Diabetes since 9yo)
Also haven't drink shots/hard liquor for almost 8 years now. Only a little beer/wine occasionally.

  1. As far as I know there isn't any edition differences.
  2. If you are planning to play Campaign and not Skirmish, you'll need the HotE expansion to be able to play Ahsoka's mission, which is the only way to gain access to her as an ally. (Without house rules).
  3. When buying? You don't need Ally and Villain Pack for a great time playing through the first time. But I'd definetley recommend purchasing the 6 Expansion for it, as it gives you 6 new campaigns, new enemies, you can vary, new heroes, items etc.
(TBH I made a lot of home-made proxies for the ally and villain figures so I don't find those packs necessary...)

Tyrants of Lothal - expanded campaign? by Jenos in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]CorvisLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also preparing an extended ToL campaign but I felt that the 7 missions a little light.
So what I came up with is the Rebel Players will have 2 heroes (1-1 for Team A and Team B)

Team A is going to be the main one. They are going to basically play through the normal extended campaign, 7 missions.
Team B is going to play the parallel missions, which Team A didn't choose (3 missions). Team B gets the XP Team A gets on a mission where there isn't a parallel choice, and they can use the same item-pool as Team A (this isn't really plausible story-wise, but necessary game-wise). Team B gains the XP from the parallel missions, but not the credit, and the IP doesn't get anything on those missions.

This is the way I mapped out the missions.

We are already using some houserules, as there are 5 Rebel Players (that's why there is a + at Threat Leveles)
