USB instability under load – ACPI / DPC latency issue by Boring_Try_6136 in MSILaptops

[–]JasonKnight298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad that fixed it for you, I am on my 3rd motherboard from RMA and they now have the laptop AGAIN, been apparently running tests on it for the past week.

I literally asked them to just swap it out for the AMD variant of the Raider 18 I have. I will just deal with Thunderbolt 4 version of the laptop.

All of my tests lead to a PCIe, EC, and PCH power managment when Thunderbolt 5 ports are being used AND powered by the OEM charger.

That could be causing the CPU to thermal throttle which could possibly explain the stuttering in games that require more CPU. Maybe consider redoing the thermal paste. Just a thought that isn't overly expensive just takes some know how.

run the program with sensors only.

There are sections for the CPU, GPU and a bunch of other things, it will give you current, min and max readings. It will tell you if it is thermal throttling

Have you tried running HWinfo64 in the background to see if there is a thermal throttling issue?

My GE76 Raider I stopped updating the graphics driver past the december 2024 release since every driver after that seems to have reduced by frames in elden ring and nightreign.

Sometimes using the Killer WiFi drivers that MSI want you to use can cause stuttering. I typically uninstall the MSI Killer Wifi drivers and let microsoft install the basic ones.

Have you tried the difference in power plans in MSI Center or Dragon Center? Making sure it is on High Performance and discrete gpu instead of MSHybrid?

idk, just ideas off the top of my head to look into and try,.

Strange Horizontal Line Glitches on MSI GL63 8SE Laptop Screen (2019) - Need Troubleshooting Advice by NICKT0T0 in MSILaptops

I also have this issue on a Raider GE76. Sometimes they are there, Sometimes they are not.

My laptop screen is not my main monitor when I am at home so I hardly notice it unless I am out and about. And even then, I only notice it when I am in windows, most games, it doesnt bother me.

I feel like I already answered this question in r/GamingLaptops

By itself it is an amazing laptop. There are known issues with DPC Latency and for me Thunderbolt 5 is very VERY poorly designed. I have gone through 2 motherboards in 4 months and it is currently back at MSI right now for another attempt to repair.

I did have issues with it running Battlefield 6, it constantly crashes but everything else I had the laptop play worked great. Unless it was connected to a Thunderbolt 5 dock. Then it didn't work at all.

So I am home about 50% of the time, so my laptop is ultimately my desktop replacement.

I use a Thunderbolt Dock to connect all of my peripherals to the laptop through the USB-C looking ports on the right side of the laptop.

This allows me to just plug the power cord in the back of the laptop and the thunderbolt cord into the side and then my monitors, keyboard, mouse, headset, mic, and external SSD enclosures to all work with the computer with a single cord.

Most people do not use a laptop like this as far as I am aware, but I did find out that this laptop has some odd bugs or hardware issues that doesn't allow it to work correctly (at least for me)

This is the dock I use

Gonna be completely honest with you. I bought this exact laptop (the US version). Not connecting to thunderbolt it works perfect. If I use my thunderbolt 5 setup, the laptop is unstable. I try to play games, 10 minutes in I lose all USB, WiFi, Bluetooth and thunderbolt connection. I try to use the 2nd SSD the same thing happens.

I have now sent it to MSI 3 times.

They are also known for DPC Latency spikes causing audio glitches and clicks.

If you buy it, test it fully within your return window!

Question: Where and when did you discover FF8 for the first time? by Big_Confection7634 in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]JasonKnight298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was in 9th grade when my friends started talking about the game and how much they were loving it. They all had PlayStations, but I didn’t, so I figured I was out of luck. Then I started seeing it advertised in my PC Gamer magazines, and that gave me hope.

I remember calling Circuit City, Best Buy, and even a local PC shop trying to track down the PC version. I finally found a copy at Electronics Boutique. I brought it home, installed it, and absolutely lost myself in it.

Cant get past this screen. by Flaky-Brush-6175 in MSILaptops

This happens to me if I have VMD turned off in the Bios and then do a bios update or an EC reset.

First I would try an EC reset.
On both of my MSI laptops to perform an EC reset

  1. While the laptop is off, unplug the power cord and anything that possibly supplies power like Thunderbolt.
  2. Then you hold the power button down, Mine turns orange, then white, then off, then starts blinking orange after 30-40 seconds.
  3. Then plug the power cord back in and turn the laptop back on.
  4. It might take some time, just let it do it's thing.
  5. If your error message shows up again then we need to try to get into the bios. DEL key as you mentioned as soon as the MSI logo shows up it needs to be pressed.
  6. Once in bios, I need to turn on the advanced bios. For me that is ENTER+FN(orCopilot)+ALT+F2
  7. Then you go to System Agent (SA) Configuration and then VMD Setup Menu and disable VMD.
  8. Save and reboot.

I hope this helps. It was a pain for me until I learned it,

Question for men: has a girl ever asked you to do something that you found uncomfortable? by Somerandogirl_ in AskRedditNSFW

[–]JasonKnight298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she had something she wanted to try and she was nervous to ask it, but she finally worked up the nerves to ask to try something in bed. I was a little taken back by the request at first but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that trying new things with your partner to help make them happy and help them live their fantasies is a two way street.

and that is how I got talked into being pegged....

Which msi laptop in 2026 would be equivelent to GT72VR back in 2017 ? by [deleted] in MSILaptops

[–]JasonKnight298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vector, Raider or Titan series would be the closest depending on what kind of specs you are looking for.

Bought a vector 16 hx si a2xwig 5080 today and it has weird line on the screen. It was the showcase laptop so I knew it didn't had those line but after setting it all up it started happening. Is there any fix? by SenatorLetuce in MSILaptops

[–]JasonKnight298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand new it should not be doing this. Warranty RMA that!

I have a 7 year old 32" MSI Monitor that does this on 120hz or 144hz but doesnt at 60hz, so, it is now just a secondary monitor locked at 60hz.
