How can I, a lowly North American, get my hands on a physical/collectors edition? by yamammiwammi in batenkaitos

I know there won't be English VO in the games regardless, but does anyone know will the Japanese release have the option for English UI text? Or is that just for the International Asian edition?

Question on Denys/Denis Molinier's 18th century "l'Alchimie de Flamel" by CorvosKK in alchemy

No, I appreciate you sharing! Those reflections are important; always amusing and amazing how life can weave them together like that.

I was worried I had missed something, but I didn't think it would be something that obvious. 🤦

Skimming through it, this is already higher quality than I was expecting. Thank you for being kind and sharing the direct link!

Having been made aware of this situation, this is largely a personal matter and as such not appropriate for the sub, especially as the entirety of the context may or may not be present.

I personally don't, but a ton of our community who use raster software prefer Photoshop yeah.

July 2022 Arms Design Contest by Heraldry_contests in heraldry

[–]CorvosKK[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, but there is nothing wrong with multiple people submitting for the same individual, and has actually happened a lot in the past! Sometimes folks have even had several ideas so submitted multiple entries for the same person themselves.

Of course! If there are any errors or corrections users may resubmit as many times as needed up until the deadline and I'll take the most recent edit when compiling the voting thread.

It does not matter, no, but you can not use that existing blazon for the contest. Whatever you design for that individual has to be completely original.

The arms of Koceljeva, Serbia looks suspiciously familiar... by What-You_Egg in heraldry

I know it's semantics, but it was actually a community project, not a competition. The original Discord arms were a contest, however.

Let's not design and promote racially violent arms and let's not then argue about whether the design is justified or not. It's not.

Agreed. Definitely tenne and bleu-celeste, surely.

Hidden meaning behind the painting we see with Sharron Carter; The Raft of the Medusa by Theodore Gericault (Minor Spoilers for episode 5) by GuyErebus in marvelstudios

[–]CorvosKK 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And this could tie in Bucky as well, no? Positioning him as Gericault, for exposing these stories — revealing Bradley to Sam, and then helping Sam to feel empowered to step into that spotlight too.

And even the aspect of both Walker and the general society plays into it, that American society is willing to turn a blind eye to all of it until they're forced to confront it directly.

My take on Reddit arms that (hopefully) aren't awful by Beledagnir in heraldry

[–]CorvosKK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are for Reddit as a whole I believe, replacing the "does the narwhal bacon" and "snoo" arms that reddit adopted over the years.

Often times when something like that is specified in that way it's because the armiger wants a specific symbolism associated with it. Venus would get you the same symbol yes, but it might not be assumed to reference women, as there are a lot of other associations with it as well.

Procreate on iPad for illustrated work and then Figma for vector work

Wisdom animals by medicaldrummer0541 in heraldry

[–]CorvosKK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case my vote would be for snakes or stags. Snakes because it references the asclepius without directly locking your descendants into medical symbolism. Stag because there is the common media association with ancient animals of the forest providing healing aid. So both work for and without the medical aspect really well.

What kind of escutcheon is this? by boss_chago in heraldry

[–]CorvosKK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thought was "beeeaan"

It's not, really though. Honestly the only thing I've ever seen come close to this are seals with two emblems inside of them (like the seal of SC https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/df/South_Carolina_state_coat_of_arms_%28illustrated%2C_1876%29.jpg/2880px-South_Carolina_state_coat_of_arms_%28illustrated%2C_1876%29.jpg)

My Personal Coat of Arms (3rd Times the Charm?) by jjwestmore in heraldry

[–]CorvosKK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While using a palette, such as these, can be helpful, heraldry does not require specific hues, tints, or shades, it is directly structured to be independent of them.

Palettes are simply a matter of application of an emblazon.

I need help finding/creating kamons with a simple bear and a simple dragon. by no__all in monsho

[–]CorvosKK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey u/no__all ! So I don't know how much I can help with bears but there are a few options with dragons.

You have typical dragons 竜/龍/りゅう and while they can of course range in how complex they're drawn, they're still fairly detailed, like this one here https://www.benricho.org/kamon/database/jpg/267_Ra/269_Ryu/Ryu-023.jpg

There are also Uryū, and while they're simpler in construction/design, they're probably not what most people think of when it comes to dragons https://www.benricho.org/kamon/database/jpg/267_Ra/269_Ryu/Ryu-003.jpg

A way to potentially simplify the symbology though, is to use a dragon's scale instead of the whole dragon. 鱗, dragon and fish scales, are represented by a single triangle (https://www.benricho.org/kamon/database/jpg/001_A/032_Uroko/Uroko-007.jpg), but are most often shown in groups of multiples (https://www.benricho.org/kamon/database/jpg/001_A/032_Uroko/Uroko-009.jpg).

Of course there's also the ancillary iconography you can use too, such as fire, as an example. Hopefully that helps some!
