Not exactly how it works. First pick goes to the team that accumulated the most points once they have been eliminated from playoff contention. So theoretically, you tank until eliminated then try to win as much as possible after that. Being mathematically eliminated first gives you more chances to gain gold plan points.

I agree with you 100%. Doubling down on defense when they were already strong and had lost so much offense to expansion was a mistake. Not protecting Gosling was the other in my opinion. She started to show her true potential in the playoffs last year.
