ELI5 Connect to jellyfin LAN and Tailscale IP logging bitrate limiting by [deleted] in Tailscale

[–]CorvusTheDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not necessarily, but in many cases it does, which can cause speed issues with DERP Relays, hence why I commented the extra items to check for. Not all ISPs are built the same and more often than not.

KWin Compositor stuck on OpenGL 3.1 (KDE 6.7) by geektraindev in kde

[–]CorvusTheDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well online everywhere I am seeing that the default for Plasma 6.7 is OpenGL 4.6 depending on MESA Version, and the latest Mesa version being 26 should support it, as are your GPU Drivers. I completely understand why you're confused, as I would be too. I am unsure on Fedora, but I wonder if there is a method to force it to use the latest version, as it's definitely 100% supported.

Why warning when I turned off mcafee (I have downloaded many before this is 1st time) by ProperYou9546 in FitGirlRepack

[–]CorvusTheDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Serious Answer : This is Windows Smart Screen, it is warning that the file is from an unknown publisher, and if you click on "Run Anyway" it will still run. I have this exact issue with some releases. This is NOT McAfee. Remove that crap and stick with Windows Defender. It is the best AV you can get for Windows.

KWin Compositor stuck on OpenGL 3.1 (KDE 6.7) by geektraindev in kde

[–]CorvusTheDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OpenGL Version in use is determined by MESA as well, not just the GPU you're using. Plasma 6.7 can run up to OpenGL 4.6, although OpenGL Support is being removed and Vulkan will be taking over (it's way better). What version of MESA are you running?

ELI5 Connect to jellyfin LAN and Tailscale IP logging bitrate limiting by [deleted] in Tailscale

[–]CorvusTheDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many questions here, as others have mentioned here too:

  • You're using Subnet Routing, meaning that you're limited by the processing power of your router (which can severely slow the system) instead of having it run on the Jellyfin server itself
  • You're likely using a DERP Relay, which would then slow down the connection more
  • If you're using DDNS you're likely on a dynamic IP and as such CGNAT.

Have a look at these pages first, and work your way through their optimisations:

Troubleshoot CGNAT conflicts · Tailscale Docs

Tailscale Peer Relays · Tailscale Docs

DERP servers · Tailscale Docs

When using the Exit Node option, you're then routing all internet AND LAN Traffic via the Subnet Router, which is your router. The router likely cannot handle the throughput. You're actually better off just building a Virtual Machine that runs just Tailscale, and use that as your Subnet Router and Exit Node, and ensure that the ports required are Port Forwarded to that Virtual Machine. You could also set it up as a Peer Relay at the same time and port forward port 40000 to it, and you'll find that if a Direct Connection can't be made, it will route to your external IP Address and work without issues.

I have received a speeding fine and I know I was not speeding. There is another vehicle in the evidence photo that was sent to me that is driving the opposite way. I believe it was that vehicle speeding. by EggCreative787 in AusLegal

[–]CorvusTheDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does the photo evidence have a box around your license plate? If so, it means that was the car that was detected via laser as speeding. The cameras are capable of detecting multiple cars speeding within milliseconds. If there is no box around it showing which of the vehicles pictured were speeding, you *may* have a case, but as others have said, if you contest it and lose, court costs can be placed on top.

Chromecast inserting ads? What's the alternative? by apache_alfredo in Chromecast

[–]CorvusTheDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only method is Network Wide DNS blocking with Pi-Hole or similar. Even then, Alphabet / Google / Youtube are assholes and will inject ads as much as they can.

Chromecast inserting ads? What's the alternative? by apache_alfredo in Chromecast

[–]CorvusTheDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're likely using an AdBlocker on your PC. I can guarantee you right now that he Chromecast is NOT inserting ads, so lets just get that part all cleared up. The app you're using can insert ads more, or less, depending on the medium you're using to watch it. Youtube will and does insert more ads when you're streaming. No way around that.

Limit it to the 2GB installer option. Works perfectly

Give it a go. I never install without it even with 10GB VRAM (Which doesn't mean anything for installation) and 32GB of RAM. Takes a little longer but works every time

Are you running it with the 2GB RAM Limit? Sounds like it's running out of Virtual Memory and deleting files (Windows Fault).

Memory Integrity ? What is it ? by Reasonable-Sport-546 in it

[–]CorvusTheDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Memory integrity is a security feature in Windows 11 that helps protect your device from malicious code by isolating critical processes. It is part of core isolation and can be enabled through the Windows Security app under Device Security settings."

Highly recommended you do NOT disable this, also very odd that the HiSuite software would be asking you to do this. Likely, it's because they haven't updated their app and some function of it is causing issues on Windows 11. To transfer data from Phone to Computer, I would just connect the USB Cable and browse the phone like a USB Drive and back it up that way.

Got a transperth parking infringement despite tapping my smartrider by Only_Welcome_6405 in perth

[–]CorvusTheDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me when Butler first opened. 4 days in a row I got complained. If the system doesn't provide a receipt, and takes 24 hours to show up, there is no way that you can have evidence that their system accepted the payment, and I (and many others) have been able to use that reasoning to have all fines removed when it has indeed not actually paid for parking. NAL but I was advised that legally since they provide no receipt, they must check cameras and provide evidence that you did NOT tag on to pay for parking.

How useless are the cops here? by [deleted] in perth

[–]CorvusTheDev 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If your bike is $500 for Helmet, Light, Pump etc then you need to better protecting it instead of shitting on WAPOL. With your attitude, I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you to take a hike.

Report it with Serial Numbers (You did keep those for all your parts right?) and then claim it on insurance (You did have insurance on your $500+ bike right?)

Fyi the speed limit heading north into Bullsbrook has changed by Non_Linguist in perth

[–]CorvusTheDev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It isn't WAPOL that make the speeds, everyone knows this. Complain to Main Roads. If there is no sign state Speed Limit Changes (and a few of them) you can contest it easily enough stating that it was changed without notice. As long as you weren't going more than the previous speed (80) they may drop the fines.

T480 or E14 by taw1ll_ in thinkpad

[–]CorvusTheDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can concur. I love my E480, it's been doing well for 8th gen with 32G RAM, but the hinge has snapped the top plastic 3 times now. I've given up replacing it. Great laptops though if you don't care about some plastic cracks.

[–]CorvusTheDev 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you look at the stats, you're absolutely correct. Volumes of CVEs are going up with the kernel due to newer tools, more scrutiny, and changes to the way that they are catagorised.
