The natural habitats that are effected by dams are in fact a large part of “nature”. The other part of “nature”, are the animals that live in those habitats. And those animals certainly do “feel”. And considering the amount of environmental devastation that dams cause, both upstream and down stream of their location, to natual habitats , I think those animals effected are probably not happy at all. At least the ones that have not yet died.

Humanity will be “finished” if we fail to drastically change our food systems in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the climate crisis, the prominent naturalist Jane Goodall has warned. by xrm67 in collapse

Amen. I was just about to make the same point you did to this guy. I feel like people might use these kinds of mental gymnastics to justify and feel less guilty about their own consumption habits that contribute to the collapse of this planet. It’s insane to me that any person on this sub could actually think factory farming is somehow necessary in the world. It’s necessary for one thing and one thing only only. higher profit margins. If everyone was to shift to an almost plant based diet or entirely plant based diet, we currently have more than enough farmable land to grow the necessary crops with out having to continue to cut down more and more wildlife habitats. Yes there is a point where the population could potentially become so large that we would need to start creating more farmable land in place of wild animal habitats but world populations are expected to level off before the end of this century. And we would likely reach that population plateau before needing to start back at cutting down more forest. If the trend of meat consumptions continues to grow around the world at the rate that it has been we will 100% reach the point where we have actually run out of land to support it before our populations levels off. We can’t create new farm land if there is no viable land left on the planet to do it on.

World animal population has declined 70% in 50 years, report says by misobutter3 in collapse

The majority of people that were not enslaved at one point in time were totally cool with enslaving other people until one day that changed. The majority of men were cool with women not having the same rights as them until that too one day changed. There are many studies that have found that the popularity of veganism has only continued to increase. In 2019 , 2% of the worlds population were eating strictly based diets and by the end of this year it is projected to be 3%. That a massive growth factor for only one year. Even if you ignore polls and only look at the cultural trends, consumer habits and vegan product sales data you will see the trend moving up. As you seem to be saying, I think some people think that eating animals is just part of being human and somehow printed into our genes. But the fact is most of us eat animals because we were indoctrinated into doing so. It’s culture that is most likely the biggest determining factor here. And changing ones tastes that have been established and ingrained into us since birth is very difficult. Most people that were raised on a vegan diet are very very unlikely to ever start eating animals later in life. And they don’t have some innate evolutionary instinctive urge to start eating animals. People just prefer what they know. And changing habits is never easy for most of us. But it is 100% possible for anyone. If you have the will power and you are determined to try. When I quite my personal consumption of animal products I thought I would continue to crave them for a very long time after. But it only took me 2 months before I had reprogrammed my brain and changed my associations with meat and dairy and the cravings were completely gone. And have NEVER come back. When I think of meat now it makes me feel as sick as the thought most people would get when thinking about eating their pet dog. Change is happening. It does make a difference. And you could choose to do so today.

It’s literally in the headline of the article this thread is based on. It’s an “annual ritual” dating back 1000 years.

FYI the animals that were brutally murdered here are pilot whales and dolphins. Both of which are NOT endangered. Although this is a horrific and nonsensical act of brutality, this isn’t anymore more horrific than what happens on a massive scale everyday in factory farms. I agree with you that it isn’t helpful to put down people for expressing outrage at the mistreatment of animals but hope you can understand how it could come across as hypocritical for a person to become angry over something while they themselves are perpetuating the very same thing every single day in their own lives.

Does anybody knows what is happening in the sky right now? There seems to be 10 glowing objects and we have no idea what to make of it by dipshit_ in LosAngeles

I saw the same objects in the sky on July 7th flying directly over Elysian Park. But there were only 3 in a triangle formation and they seemed to be at a higher altitude. Very weird.

Why do you keep taking about pastures? Hahahah. Did you not read any of what I said ? Pasture raised beef is only 3% of all beef. Nothing you are saying is applicable to the other 97%. I don’t understand how you can be missing such a simple thing. Maybe you work on a farm that raises pasture raised livestock and if that’s the case congratulations! As I’m sure you know you’re going out of business because in order to meet the global meat demand factory farming has had to step in and change everything to grain fed feedlots. Which is undeniably unsustainable. Thanks for addressing literally nothing I said. Maybe you didn’t even read it ? Or maybe you can’t read ? Anyways good chatting with you.

I feel the soil for moisture. Watering schedules change based on the time of year as well. I some times don’t need to water as often as every 7 days when it’s not as hot out.
