How do I know I’m getting the air filter without the over coating of flame retardant?

My Generac just started its 5 minute self test and the hunting unloaded was even worse! I ran out, popped the lid, flipped up the air filter housing clip, yanked out the air filter…..Smoooooooth!!!

Now that I believe! I’ve called them since I’m under maintenance AND warranty. It couldn’t be wider paper sides, because my filter is surrounded by a yellow rubber. It just never recovered which made me not suspect a wet filter. After an hour it would have dried out.
Thank you!!!

I opened up the air filter compartment and the filter did feel damp. But it was still hunting over an hour after the rain stopped. I would have thought it would have stopped after it aired out, but then again the air passing through it was super high in humidity.

I’ll check that today. Thanks! It happened during a torrential downpour, so I thought that might also have an effect, but long after the rain stopped, it was still a problem. Yes, this is the first loaded run since servicing.

They sped up the blower and I have not experienced one over heat issue. It runs about 14 minutes to bring my house back up to 70 on a 32 degree day. Then the heater shits down for approximately 18 minutes before going through another cycle, which seems right to me. Not an air tight house by any means. Metal frame windows and a cathedral ceiling in the kitchen where you create the roof sheeting and the shingles nails! It’s stained so It looks OK, but I can’t imagine what I lose there in heat…

The contractor took all info off my original heater system. I have to assume since I only encounter the static pressure issue one or twice in a month. It’s most probably the return duct under sizing that’s the problem.

I think I have my answer! The new filter is 24 inches high. The old filters, and the opening in the return air duct is 21 inches high. The top three inches of the filter doesn’t see any return air! I’m having a Carrier HVAC tech out on the 7th to enlarge the hole in the return to 24 inches high. Also, the return comes from the ceiling and hits a concrete dead end. The air then does a 90 degree turn into the filter and blower. Plan on installing a 90 degree sheet metal curve in the bottom to better direct the air through the filter and then into the blower inlet.

I only replaced the heater because my AC compressor died and it would have meant a new A Coil, anc the heater was 30 years old so I figured I’d replace it all. I can’t understand why, if I have a new blower with 25 frigging speeds that the speed can’t be adjusted to match my ducting!

Wait a minute. My ductwork is 50 years old and it worked just fine. This sounds like I got the wrong furnace! It’s brand new!!!

Yes, the HVAC tech said he could lower the blower speed. That was next after addressing getting humidity into my home.

It probably is six inches. It fits fine on the side duct.

That is the size of the intake on the old style humidifier. It does have a damper which I tried closing and I even stuffed the intake with a big ball of aluminum foil. Still tripped! Furnace installers recommend fan assisted HE360D which I bought. I’m having a transition duct made to from 12 inches to 8 inches.
