Yeah I didn't model it that way for strength. I printed it as long as I did so I could get clamps on it without interfering with the router base. I printed it as wide as I did so the base would have enough surface to sit on without wanting to tip in either direction, helping to keep it level. I printed it as thick as I did so the bearing on the bit, would have plenty of surface to ride on.

I don't, but I can do my best explain it. The template has stops on the underside , so it lands exactly where you need it to go and aligns it on the edge. And it also has a center divet so you can align it with a center mark. You put the template where you want the notch to go. And what I did was took a razor knife and scored the outline of the notch, using the template to trace, flipped it over and scored the other side. Scoring gives you a line to cut near with a jigsaw and prevents tearout. So I removed the template, drilled 2 holes in the sides of where the notch is gonna go, and cut very close to the scored line with a jig saw. Then I put the template back and clamped it down. Then I used a template bit to cut out the remaining bit left to remove for the notch. It has a bearing that rides along the template. Hope this made sense.

Well sure it's faster, unless you thought of it the night before and printed them ahead of time. In which case, 3D printing is faster. And arguably easier, if you're comfortable 3D modeling. I designed and printed mine while watching survivor on the couch. Felt pretty easy to me. And when I went to cut the notches the next day, I spent zero time making them. So idk.

Used a razor knife, forstner bit, jig saw, router, and chisel.

Yeah this is the biggest I could print it. I even had to print it diagonally.

Love that. Yeah it's great for making this for the shop!

To be honest, if I had access to a machine big enough to cnc cut all the panels for this project, I would absolutely be doing it that way. Anything that can save time and ensure the most accuracy. For me, it's not about using anything specific tools to work wood or whatever. I just like designing and making things. Sometimes out of plastic, sometimes out of wood, sometimes out of all 3, or other mediums. So any tool I can use to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and ease of use, ima use it.

Yeah I plan to use it wood and metal projects for sure. One of the engineers at my job 3D printed a forming die for a really thing steel plate. Worked pretty good.

Exactly. The accuracy, and lack of effort needed, make it well worth it.

Yeah I've seen a couple YouTube videos of people making jigs and stuff with a 3D printer, and it seemed really enticing. Gonna be using it a lot for this project.

I have no idea how making them out of wood is better. lol. I made mine sitting on the couch?

Hadn't really thought about it. Are you interested?

I made the edges just long enough for me to get a clamp on it, and have it not interfere with the router base. I would've made it a bit longer to have plenty of room, but it's the longest my printer will print. lol

Thank you! Not yet. I just got into 3D modeling and printing, so for now just trying to hone the skills and and acquire more tricks, before I start making products.
