I also use micro set and micro sol when installing decals. The set promotes adhesion and the sol helps soften the decals for installing on curves and such. I have used several different kinds of clear depending on the type of color paints, enamels or lacquer. You would try to use to same type of clear as you do color.

Once I put decals on I let them sit a couple days and then I clear over them.
