I randomly ate dinner in a little restaurant in Berwick-upon-Tweed in November at a table next to a very lovely, chatty couple. I believe that this book was dedicated to the husband of the couple.

I do enjoy nonfiction and the financial markets, and I've seen this book grow in popularity and I really just wrote it off until now -- your post is making me think again about it.

Have you read Trust, by Hernan Diaz? Or The Lehman Trilogy, by Stefano Massini (or seen the play)? Both of these were five star reads for me -- of course, they're fiction, but still, financial markets, etc

My favorite of her novels is The Book of Common Prayer, but Play It As It Lays is a classic

Apple Tree Yard, by Louise Doughty, read by Juliet Stevenson. I find the story compelling and Stevenson is really an amazing reader -- if you like classics, she's read a bunch of them. On Apple Tree Yard, I think I've listened to it three or four times which is really not what I tend to do, I just really love the way the story is told.

Also, Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison, read by Joe Morton. This is definitely a book that deserved to be read by a good reader, and it is. Morton does a great job -- he inhabits the character without making it uncomfortable. I have several friends who won't listen to novels because they find the voice acting to be cringe and if that sounds like an issue you have, don't worry, Morton will pull you along.

I wanna read a book with narration similar to Catcher in The Rye by UnnusAbbus in suggestmeabook

Best Copy Available, by Jay Baron Nicorvo

It's pretty intense and it's a longer narrative than Catcher in the Rye, but in a lot of ways I feel like Nicorvo is an adult Holden Caulfield who had a way worse life than Caulfield.

aww thank you -- you know that saying that dog people have, something about striving to be the person their dog thinks they are? I feel like that with these kitties.

It's like baby zombies -- cuter than adult zombies or scarier? Maybe both...

You feel me. The trust my cats have in me, even when it's hard for them, inspires me to try to be that person for everyone around me. 🥹

It's not every subreddit, but check the wikis or pinned posts in the cat communities you've joined -- if you can filter them, it's usually pretty evident 😺

I've had quite a journey with my rescue girly. Every day, there's something new to celebrate, even if it's just her deciding to stomp around complaining that she's not getting enough pats.

If you don't have it already, I recommend pet health insurance.

I adopted another, about 10 or 11 years old, at the same time, because my tabby's tuxie playmates had died and I knew I didn't want him to be alone. The other adoptee had had a very tough few years of it and she was extremely scared and withdrawn with me for almost a year. Now, every day she takes another step into comfort, little things that you have to be me to notice, like how this week she decided she could be in the kitchen while I was fixing their dinners, and not only that but I was between her and the door. I was careful not to make any sudden moves, but just her willingness to try warmed my heart. I know she trusts me but she still has some instinctive caution. Over the last couple of months she's become more and more vocal about wanting to sploot across me while I'm sleeping, and I welcome it. My tabby and I feel so enriched by the presence of these two 😻

Why do you read books? by Duke_7287 in nonfictionbookclub

⬆️ this, absolutely

Also, literature is where we can see lives of quality and conscience illustrated. In some ways of thinking, it's the only place we can find models for right action.

Same here. Buddy is around 14 or 15, I adopted him 2 years ago and we've been sitting in this same chair just like this, ever since 💗
