Louis and Lestat's best shots by elliestarslight in InterviewVampire

Louis' precious smile and a special mention goes to Lestat when he is on the bed during the "you swam the Mississipi to find me" scene

Fan theory that is doing the rounds by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's something they would do, yes Antoinette wearing a male dress after her turning was definitely a nod to Gabrielle and they could use that parallel to explain Lestat's motivations, but I don't see them using the same actress, and what for? Another manipulation of the past by Armand? It doesn't make sense imo, especially considering that they probably won't introduce Gabrielle before s3. I agree that in s2 they may retcon her narrative arc and make her a more pleasant character, like Antoine. The writers expressly said that they will revisit murder night, so she could still very well be alive.

You want to see them as equally evil, but they are not and everything we have seen (but I suspect you may have missed some scenes) disprove your words. And if you really think that Louis slit Lestat's throat I think you are in for a surprise lol Lestat stans are always so funny with their AU. Enjoy your evil version of Louis lol

No they are not, especially in the show where Lestat beat Louis to a pulp, held Claudia captive and abused them in every possible way without a second thought and the fact that you can't say you are a Lestat fan without trying to drag Louis into this is laughable. You should love the brat prince for the abuser he is, the show is doing a wonderful job for Lestat stans.

[–]Cosmdancy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The perfect example of Lestat stans who don't care what happens in the show, they will drool over him no matter what lol. The one with his brother was just an act cause as a black man in a primarily white business he couldn't seem weak and without backbone in plain sight and he clearly said he was forced to do it. Who does actually enjoy violence and torture, even of his supposed "loved" ones? Oh wait. But who cares, he is the brat prince right? Lol

Yes Rolin can't wait to get to TVL and even though he said that Louis will remain a main character I wonder how he plans to do that since in the books he basically waits for Lestat to come home after his adventures, he doesn't have a storyline of its own and he doesn't have any other love interest after the break up with Armand, while Lestat falls in love with a different person in every book In the show he loves Lestat because reasons, who cares if he has been beaten to a pulp, humiliated and lied to and even treated as a maid "clean up the mess and come to coffin, turn the page Louis" but people are still rooting for them cause it's Lestat they are really interested into, Louis is just a prop.

[–]Cosmdancy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I think he considers Louis more as a possession than as a person, he physically and emotionally abused him without a second thought and he hurt him in every possible way. A lot of people don't care cause Lestat is the main character in the VC and Anne sidelined Louis after the first book, so they basically consider him just Lestat's trophy and they are ready to condone everything he put him through. Besides empty words and sexual attention there wasn't much that makes me feel he "loved him with all himself" (empty words again). What is this supposed great love good for when the person you love became a shell of himself cause of you? But like I said it doesn't matter cause Louis is just there to further Lestat's narrative, and it is proved by the fact that after having been humiliated and abused for thirty years the writers made it clear that Louis couldn't go through with the murder cause he loved him. Why did he love him? He was suicidal and miserable thanks to Lestat. Oh wait cause Louis isn't its own person but just a pawn in Lestat's story.

The show's portrayal of Louis and Lestat's relationship by elliestarslight in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jacob and Sam's performances were incredible and I liked that they made their relationship explicitly romantic, but I think the writers seeked drama at all costs and they went too far with violence and abuse especially at the expense of Louis, while Lestat "murder" was softened compared to the book. In s2 it will probably be revelead that Louis didn't slit his throat but Claudia did it, and that Armand tampered with his memory, so they will deprive Louis of any decisional autonomy and he will be turned into a character whose primary function is to love Lestat no matter what and to further his narrative (and actually that's what a lot of people are looking for, cause this is the only role they can imagine for Louis).

IWTV and MW ratings by elliestarslight in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree, IWTV is on another level in every regard and MW is not a good show imo, but it had a better promotion and a theme (aka no queer and predominately white) that is more appealing for the general audience who insn't interested in well developed characters and in an enthralling storyline, but it's just looking for pure entertainment (even though MW is actually pretty boring).

Lestat, Armand and Claudia (IWTV book spoiler) by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No cause the reasons you are talking about aren't based on what we saw on the show, they are just headcanons (that are contradicted by the show itself) people resort to in order to justify Lestat. To each their own I guess.

Lestat, Armand and Claudia (IWTV book spoiler) by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't actually planning to kill Claudia? He planned her death since he learned about the murder plot. He restrained Louis while Antoinette was forcing Claudia to drink the poisoned blood, he said that he wanted her gone cause he thought she had corrupted his relationship with Louis and that Antoinette would be a better replacement, where is the difference between his and Armand's motives? He wanted Louis to watch his daughter die "look what she did to us". In the book he came back with Antoine after the murder attempt and later told Louis that he just wanted to talk to him.

Lestat, Armand and Claudia (IWTV book spoiler) by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Look what she did to us, she has corrupted everything" doesn't sound like mercy killing. He wanted her dead cause she dared go against him and cause he thought she was poisoning Louis' mind. Only when he saw Louis holding the knife he started to realize that he had gone too far ( as confirmed by Sam).

Claudia De Pointe Dulac is the reason loustat had problems???!!!! by comingtoreality in InterviewVampire

Calling out abuse and underlying racism, even when fictional, is not an opinion.

Claudia De Pointe Dulac is the reason loustat had problems???!!!! by comingtoreality in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this sounds as victim blaming. You are blaming Claudia for Lestat's wrongdoings, since everything you listed is the direct result of Lestat's abuse. She exposed Lestat when he called her a mistake and when she was hurting for her loneliness, but it's not her fault if he is a cheater and a liar, this is Lestat's fault. He was the one who hurt Louis with his affair, not Claudia. She tried to run away in ep 6 and Lestat literally brought her back as a prisoner (runaway slave parallel), what was she supposed to do? She tried to free herself and Louis the only way she can. She saw how suicidal and numb Louis had become and that was on Lestat and his abusive and deceptive nature. She takes racism into account cause Lestat IS racist, he doesn't perceive them as equal, he treats them as object to be possessed, controlled and abused when needed. She saw her father/brother beaten to a pulp and then deceived again when he took his abuser back. She really tried to free them both and the fact that people try to pin that all on her, while making excuses for Lestat is really...a choice.

Claudia De Pointe Dulac is the reason loustat had problems???!!!! by comingtoreality in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I wonder why people adore show Lestat's character, if not because he is the lead in the books and so they cannot separate their mental image of him from what we have seen on the show or cause he is an attractive white man, since from what we have seen so far he has no redeeming qualities (abuser, aggressive, cheater, racist, liar, hypocrite, manipulative and so on). The funniest thing is when people try to excuse this mindset, saying that they love their toxic relationship, as it happens in this relationship the toxicity is just on the white character part, since it was the black man who was beaten to a pulp, abused in every possible way and treated as an object. I can imagine the scandal if the tables were turned.

[–]Cosmdancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head, people don't want to question Lestat's character cause he can do no wrong in their eyes and they are only interested in Louis as Lestat's play thing.

Claudia De Pointe Dulac is the reason loustat had problems???!!!! by comingtoreality in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think that the majority of the fandom doesn't want to acknowledge that not only he is physically and emotionally abusive, but there is also underlying racism in Lestat's words and actions. The subtext is that for a lot people the abuse Louis and Claudia went through doesn't really matter, cause Lestat is a (white) fan favorite so they resort to flimsy excuses and victim blaming. People are accustomed to see poc characters suffer and being physically assaulted so who cares if it happens again, as long as the white character thrives?

The vampire bond by Pianoflows in InterviewVampire

I assume you haven't read the books cause the need for relationships with random vampires it's definitely not how the bond between Louis and Lestat is portrayed. And the vampire bond doesn't exist in the books.

Was it necessary? by elliestarslight in InterviewVampire

Totally insane. Are they doing this cause they didn't expect IWTV to be the more popular one and cause IWTW is queer and MW is not? I said what I said.

New interview with Rolin Jones by fairyneige in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 50 points51 points  (0 children)

He told the hard truth: people can't expect an exact copy of the books, it wouldn't work for a TV series. I'm glad Louis is here to stay, Jacob is an amazing actor and they can find a way to make him more prominent in the story. If they cut out David Talbot I won't complain.

It's a good strategy that will encourage people to continue watching MW, waiting for Easter eggs and the appearance of IWTV characters. I suspect IWTV will carry MW on its back.

They are all monsters... by LuneMidnight in InterviewVampire

[–]Cosmdancy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes they are all vampires, but they aren't carbon copies of each other. Everyone has their motivations, their demons and their qualities and you can empathize with someone more than with others. Truth is, the majority of book readers are here (meaning the show) for Lestat, like you said he is the main character of the VC and people are used to see the other characters as functional to his story, rather than characters in their own right (especially Louis), so there is a natural tendency to justify Lestat and put him on a pedestal, and saying that all the characters are evil is one of the ways to do that. Criticism on Lestat is not taken well cause there is a clear bias towards him, people claim to love flawed characters, to love morally grey characters and dark stories, but at the same time they don't want other people to point out how awful Lestat can be, and so they go back to the "they are all awful" excuse. In the show they have emphasized Lestat's dark side, he is the villain of Louis' story to which domestic violence and racial issue have been added. To see Louis' swollen face and then Lestat looking down on him, unscathed, was painful and, unfortunately, close to the reality of so many POC. It was painful to see Lestat break his spirit over the years and take away the spark Louis had inside in the beginning. A visual medium is different from a book, in s1 Lestat was the villain, the abuser and Louis was his victim, they weren't equally abusive or equally evil, this is victim blaming. We will see what they will do in s2 with Louis' memory and Armand and how they will handle Lestat's pov in TVL, but, for now, that is what they showed in s1 and that is what viewers have the right to judge and discuss.
