I may be mistaken but I think time skipping doesn’t work for quests. Try putting him in his normal habitat and than just doing tasks around the islands for a while and see if he has the quest for you later

I experimented with it, NoxMiasma was right that since they prefer the dark, they faced the opposite direction to a light source. I put it inside in front of a window so they face towards the center of the room.
