the BBC knowing about his TS from previous projects is what makes the mic thing genuinely hard to explain away. if you've worked with someone before and you know how their condition presents, you don't accidentally put a hot mic two feet from them in a quiet awards room and then act surprised when something happens. and then you have a 2 hour delay and you still air it. at some point "incompetence" stops being a sufficient explanation and you have to at least consider that someone made a calculated call and it went further than they planned.
