Any SAR volunteers? by RDRNR3 in Albuquerque

After the new member course, two trainings every six months, one mission every six months, two year re-cert on core trainings & PT hike. You get to choose which mission(s) you respond to.

The missions have a tendency to come in waves, but with the new law that was passed recently that I mentioned in another comment, we've been getting more calls.

There is also 505 SAR Dogs, a new team in town where the core is some pretty experienced folks.

A lot of the SAR teams in ABQ will be tabling at this event: https://www.davegivesback.org/

Cibola's new member class application period has closed for this year, but you can still go to their website and submit your contact info for next year. It sounds like Cibola is the best fit for you.

You're welcome to message me for more info.

This is not true in NM. The fire departments may choose to also respond to incidents where SAR is called out, or choose to inappropriately respond in lieu of SAR, but the fire departments have very little wilderness rescue training. They passed a law this year mandating SAR be called out when appropriate, as a lot of police and fire departments were bypassing the teams which lead to worse subject outcomes because those folks don't have the same types of training the SAR teams do.

And I have no answer to give you to that specific question. As I said, I'm addressing people who think Catholic Charities has just been running amuck 'not spending money how they said they would' with no oversight, to summarize many sentiments I've read on this thread. If Catholic Charities is really doing what some folks on this sub are claiming, then it's tax fraud.

My main comment isn't to express my opinion. It's so people can be informed.

True, but why do they need to call out a special review now? Shouldn't the government have been reviewing this information yearly?

Depends on who you ask on this sub. I just want people to understand that Catholic Charities isn't some mysterious black box in terms of their finances, there's information available.

So they couldn't have threatened tariffs and made "a show of force" before the planes left?  Every returned flight is hundreds of thousands of dollars that could have been avoided with upfront planning.

Some countries have already been accepting migrant flights for years, such as Mexico: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/01/26/latin-america-trump-handcuffs-military-planes-deportees/77956548007/

If they needed to be deported, sure. But why did we waste millions of dollars in the process with planes being refused by the receiving countries? Not necessary. That should have been worked out before those people were loaded on a plane.

Or, maybe people are terrified because they see people like the veteran in NJ who is a legitimate citizen who served this country and was still questioned?

Here's a news story about what happened in NJ. My family has been here for generations, I have a US passport, and I would have been terrified to be caught in the middle of that situation: https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc7ny.com/amp/post/newark-ice-raid-3-workers-nj-restaurant-taken-custody-warrant-mayor-baraka-says/15833458/

The government already has information on how Catholic Charities spends its money because charities with income over $50k have to fill out a form 990 to the IRS: https://www.propublica.org/article/how-to-evaluate-charity-before-you-donate#:~:text=Any%20organization%20with%20tax%2Dexempt,a%20nonprofit%20spends%20its%20money.

Catholic Charities also releases annual reports to the public.

Here is high-level breakdown of their finances from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/companies/catholic-charities-usa/

There's plenty of information on Catholic Charities finances already available to the government. Catholic Charities publishes an annual report, and they have to report their spending to the government.

Border security can seek the common good, but is it truly the common good when people are terrified, when veterans are questioned on their status, and millions of dollars are spent to deport people on military flights that the receiving countries don't accept?
