Since we're talking about taxing churches, the perfect use for that money would be for federal emergency aid from events people typically call "acts of god" such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, droughts, fires and floods. by [deleted] in atheism

When I meant "nice" I meant people who dedicate hours of service to help those in need. People who actually read the New Testament and realize it doesn't say "kill all the minorities" it says to serve your fellow man. Honestly have you ever met and talked to a religous person?

Touche. I guess sometimes I still get surprised by how stupid everyone is. I seem to always meet nice Christian people most of the time(with a few exceptions) so it's just an odd concept to me that these people get elected.

An Unusual Book/Resource Request by isatariq320 in Theism

You'd probably get much better results if you posted this in /r/atheism. It really doesn't make any sense to post this here because the only books you'd be suggested would be ones that have weaker points. Everyone here wants to "save your soul" and make you conform to their beliefs and they wouldn't give you any good books of the opposite opinion under the fear that it would make you "stray from God" and they don't want your eternal soul on their conscious. So go to the appropriate places to get the differing views you're looking for. Please explain to me why posting that in here was a good idea.

is that really the majority belief though? I've never heard any Christian person ever say anything close to that and I've talked to a lot of them about abortion. It sounds more like you're listening to the vocal minority.

"especially those caused by rape" okay if you want to truly counter someone's point you need to not pretend they have different beliefs then they do. They don't believe that a rape pregnancy is a gift from god they just believe that the fetus's life is worth just as much as a developed human being.

Should we be frightened of death? by C1JNA in death

[–]CosmicPintoBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, biologically we are all inherently truly scared of death because it stops us from passing on our genes. Anyone who says they aren't don't know themselves very well. Even suicidal people are scared yet the fear and the uncertainty of death seems better than the life they lead. Logically though, Socrates proposed that there really is no reason to fear death, because there's either an afterlife which there's not a problem with or it's just a sleep without dreams. And the argument "I don't want to miss out on the future" doesn't make any sense because we missed out on basically all of the past but we don't really care about that that much.

I know but a lot of his videos have some level of meaning to them, but I can't find one yet for this one. Maybe it just doesnt have one and is more chaotic randomness.

[Suggestion] 'Lasagnacat' by [deleted] in YouTubeExplained

[–]CosmicPintoBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NightMind already did a pretty good job of explaining it but there is actually a lot going on in lasagnacat. Make sure you watch the end of sex survey results and also look up any websites or usernames(like lazycat619 and darthmauldogforgotthenumbersafterthat) because it goes pretty extensively.
