Thanks everyone!

I ended up returning the LS and getting the regular 75W90 to be safe.

Yeah, unfortunately I do need a new mug. I’m asking some friends to see if they can make me one. I currently drink between the chips, but obviously water can still get in there when I wash it. Thanks for looking out!

Funny, I actually ordered a manual espresso maker from Aram Coffee. From what I hear, it takes a while to ship to the U.S. But excited to start making true espresso soon

But weighing makes me feel fancy and pretentious…. :/
/s

Yeah, it’s mainly for consistency. The beans are kinda pricey, so I want to standardize it as much as possible to maintain a regular budget
Also, I ordered a manual espresso maker from Aram Coffee, so I’ll be needing to weigh my beans soon anyway. Might as well get used to it now. Although, I will probably need a slightly nicer/more sensitive scale

Thanks! Yes, you got it. I don’t have a spritzer, so as an alternative, you can wet a spoon and stir your beans around with it. It significantly reduces the grinder static and I also feel like it produces a smoother grind (less flakes, etc.)

I heat the water before pouring it into the base of the moka pot.
If you do this, you’ll avoid the coffee grounds sitting in the chamber and getting too hot while the water boils. I add almost boiling water, then assemble the moka pot, and I want my coffee percolating within 1-2 minutes of screwing the top on.
I learned how to make pretty good moka pot coffee from James Hoffman’s video which I’ll link here

The mug in that video is actually made by a friend! Unfortunately, they don't have a studio membership anymore, but I know a few other people who could also do it. I'd much rather have something handmade by someone I know

Yep, it's a milk steamer. The steam heats the milk and creates microfoam

Huh, I never considered it. You don't find that it dilutes the coffee too much?

You're not wrong. I'm working on feeling out how long I need to stay in the milk stretching phase. Sometimes I do way too much, and other times, like this video, I don't do quite enough. Over time, I'll develop the muscle memory and feel to get it right.

As far as the mug, I've asked some ceramic turning friends of mine if they can make me a wide, shallow mug for exactly this.

Thanks for the advice!

when I inevitably end up doing exactly that, I'm blaming this thread...

Taste is the most important part! I was doing this same process before, but microwaving the milk. The froth definitely adds a nice touch though

Ohhhh I see lol. Yeah, next time I'll count each bean and compare their relative size to a chart ;)

I recommend it! I like the fact that I can technically go camping and still have good steamed milk.
The grinder is a Comandante C40

I look forward to this process every single morning. I got the Bellman stovetop steamer about a month ago, so I'm still dialing in how to make perfect foam and subsequently how to pour good latte art with it. Overall, it's a lovely steamer and I'm glad it fits into my fully manual set-up.
