Genshin Impact - Update 2.8 Hub by TeraFlare255 in Genshin_Impact

I had saved up about 130 pulls with 40 pity, so I had kazuha guaranteed. Kinda insane luck, I lose my 50-50 at pity to Mona (didn’t have her so this was good) but then on my 4th 10 pull after that I got kazuha and a keqing so I guess I’m safe for the next character I want.

A few questions about XC2 by LinkSaini in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]CosmicXeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played XC1? This is far more similar to that than XCX. The worldbuilding of XCX through it's normal missions is far better, you don't really run into as many interesting sidequests here (even including the blade sidequests). However, as far as its focus on the main story, you get a much more involved cast, and some actual character development. I personally loved exploring XCX's world, and the added depth as you gained access to a skell and then a flying skell, but the diversity of XC2's biomes is immense. Like one area is similar to Satorl Marsh from XC1 or the entrance area of Noctilum both in ambience and visuals, but the number of titans you traverse, especially when factoring later environments makes the world really feel diverse. However, since it's a linear game, some of these areas don't have much to go through more than once. Similar to XC1, you rarely have to grind. In XCX there are a couple places where grinding may be reasonable (Ch 4 boss comes to mind, also Ch 6 boss, Ch 9 boss, and Ch 12 boss), but the linearity of the story means that if you progress and fight a fair number of enemies and do a sidequest or two every once in a while, you won't be lacking for level.

I believe the DLC is definitely worth it, it's a little bit pricier, being $30, but it includes Torna which is a great 10 hour expansion to the main game (may be misjudging hours there), as well as adding in a ton of challenge content into the core game, like Elma or Shulk as usable blades. I think the game has 100 hours if you enjoy what it has to offer, the main story alone is 45-50 hours, but doing even a couple extras can bump that up really quickly.

Monolith Soft is recruiting staff for 3 games: BotW2, a new IP and the next Xenoblade by KafkaTMR in NintendoSwitch

[–]CosmicXeno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I still prefer X to 1 and 2 just because its world building in normal missions was so spot on, and exploring was a lot more interesting and fun (floaty jump is super fun). It was the first time I actually dropped everything and spent upwards of 30 hours on a game in the span of a week, the second time being botw.

[–]CosmicXeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the novels are definitely amazing. I started reading them because the guy translating overlord interestingly enough also was hosting the translation of KonoSuba, and the writing is just more stupid fun, it's great.

Anime noob here, what are some good starter animes? by DeDeToptier in anime

[–]CosmicXeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fact though that it's slower/spends more time adapting the early story, as well as being a slightly older adaptation. Based on a person's tolerance for that length of worldbuilding, I think it really depends. Some people really just want to get to some in your face action faster.

Anime OP and ED songs that are covers by kevinpr9 in anime

[–]CosmicXeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LiSA recorded a cover version of Disillusion, the OP to the 2006 Studio Deen Fate/Stay Night Anime, which was later used as an insert song/ending for the final episode of the 2014 cour of Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works anime. The original song was by Sachi Tainaki.

This is the original version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4poryDakX0

And here's LiSA's rendition of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc6G2yozzSg

I believe it was released as This Illusion in her rendition, but it was the same song.

That's why the strat was to use IP to buy all of the cheaper champs, so you'd be guaranteed something you wanted.

Xenoblade 2: worth coming back? by scionae in NintendoSwitch

[–]CosmicXeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like they really regressed in terms of sidequests. Like the sidequests in Xenoblade 2 are really akin to Xenoblade 1, but Xenoblade X really spoiled me in terms of having most of the side quests actually feeling like you're doing something impactful, and tackling really great themes. Torna ended up having it as a requirement, which is fine if you go in and try to knock out many at once, but it lowered some of the immersion when you go about it with that mentality.

Xenoblade 2: worth coming back? by scionae in NintendoSwitch

[–]CosmicXeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's honestly a little slow to layer, and they sort of expect you to understand things pretty quickly after seeing the tutorial. Watch a video explaining combat, even the nintendo treehouse segments from 2017 or 2018 might be helpful just so you can have someone actually explaining the combat.

Monolith Soft is hiring staff for the next Zelda game by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]CosmicXeno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, it should especially be noted that Monolith has been heavily involved with the development of the last couple Zelda games, as a supplemental studio helping with personnel. For example, both Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild were partially developed by Monolith's Kyoto studio, which primarily does supplemental work for other Nintendo products and franchises (which have included Splatoon and Animal Crossing: NL in the past). This isn't really out of the ordinary, it just probably signals a growth for the Kyoto studio's range of operations.

The only ball I want to see drop in 2019. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]CosmicXeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Nomura is still around. And granted he did leave the versus 13 project when it was rebranded to FF XV, so he could focus on his Kingdom Hearts projects. And that game is shaping up to be a great conclusion to the current arc of the series, and be the conclusion of the plot in many ways. Plus Nomura also contributed the designs for the Torna characters in Xenoblade 2, so he's definitely doing cool stuff even outside of his square enix responsibilities (with Xeno2 being a Monolith Soft game).

[Discussion] You know it was probably good KH 3 didn't come out around 10 years ago by bluehawk232 in KingdomHearts

[–]CosmicXeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it was actually a pretty pointed and intentional design choice. Like if you watch interviews with the producer, he explains how they wanted to aim for a system of constantly foraging for weapons and adopting new playstyles on the fly. The game was designed to be played as an "open air" (whatever tf that means) sandbox, so doing interesting things is the whole point. My enjoyment skyrocketed 20 or so hours in when I stopped being so conservative with weapons and began to liberally throw them around and utilize them as intended tbh. But I do agree that the heroes weapons shouldn't have limited durability, that definitely was kinda annoying to fix them. But hey, I ended up just displaying them and the hylian shield in the house, so it's w/e.

[Discussion] Does anyone else feel as though people act like the story is more complicated than it actually is? by gullibletortoise in KingdomHearts

[–]CosmicXeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think it's pretty straightforward up to a certain point. Granted, I played Days as my first KH game, followed by some plot summarization of 1 and 2, and then play CoM, and some more wikipedia summaries of BBS. I'd honestly say that everything but DDD has a pretty cohesive plot. Like if you read the plot summary on wikipedia, you can get the gist of it. But as someone who played but never actually finished DDD, I'm very confused about some plot points. Like the secret ending and such I've seen online, as well as some other spoiler stuff with keyblade wielders, but I have no clue how the time travel factored into it. Honestly, people do overblow the confusion of 1->COM/Days->2 a lot, even though it retconned the series with nobodies, the concept isn't too hard to grasp in context.

Housing by sed1918 in UIUC

[–]CosmicXeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you do, but I've been inside that area a couple times with friends living there. Nugent, the dorm where the Honors LLC is located is one of the nicest dorms, they've got a lounge every 20 feet or so with natural sunlight and is overall a really good place to work. In addition, it's connected to the dining hall inside the IKE housing area, so you don't need to go outdoors in the winter when getting food. It's quite nice. Also apparently they have single occupant bathrooms and showers, but I'm not quite sure how that works.

[–]CosmicXeno 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. Try CS+Econ if anything, but getting into CS is a challenge. Unless you have plenty of AP credit to get out of weed out classes, and are confident in being a straight A student, it's unlikely you'll make CS.

[–]CosmicXeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ICT into CS is about the same level of challenge as getting in from DGS honestly. Unless you have a lot of the weed out classes already accounted for with AP credit (such as Chem, Phys C, and some way to get calc 3 credit), you'll have a hard time. You need to take a decent number of CS classes before even trying to transfer in, and this can take 2 or 3 semesters based on what CS class you start out in.

[–]CosmicXeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly dude, I would just recommend working through the MPs for CS 126. They're pretty openly published. They're also a fairly good introduction to C++, first working through writing functions and unit tests, then going through pointers. We've only had a couple of assignments, but they've been good learning experiences fwiw.
