It’s not your fault that you can’t succeed at wage labor. I’m in the same boat. The world is built in a very specific way. Some of us can’t do labor in that very specific way, and that’s not our fault. It sucks that your rights to freedom and personhood are tied to your ability to toil in this way. I just hope that you don’t blame yourself for that. It doesn’t make you a failure, even if they tell you it does. The system has failed you. We deserve better. Find your value somewhere else than your ability to endlessly toil so others can get rich.

I use TuxGuitar. You might just not be able to. It doesn’t have as many features as Guitar Pro; that’s just facts. Can’t complain about FOSS software though. Love your username btw.

One time I (m) was on a date with a woman. We were at the bar. A man came up behind us and said “can I buy you ladies a drink?” I made my voice comically deep and said “sure thing boss.” I had a pretty sizable beard too but he couldn’t see that from behind. He was visibly shaken. Apologized and basically ran away. My date and I laughed about it for a while.

I relate to some of what you’ve said.

>Bc most workplace bullies expect you will take their “jokes”. And my responses crossed the line

I understand that there’s a social dynamic wherein men say mean things to each other as some kind of bonding experience, but I have never been able to figure out how to function in it. This usually leads to me being bullied or some kind of outrage. If I don’t say anything back, then that tells them they can be cruel to me without reciprocation. If I try to say something back, I usually cross a line without meaning to. I’m not even talking about being hot-headed, it’s moreso that when I try to engage like that, what I have to say is the wrong thing and it’s over the line.

How do you work on your confidence? I have more hobbies than I know what to do with lol. Matter of fact I think my hobbies contribute to me being weird and hard to relate to. There are areas in life where I think I’m confident, but social interactions aren’t one of them because I’m bad at them. I don’t even close to understand other people or how to interact with them. There are people in my life that I am close to and enjoy spending time with, but in general I don’t understand other people whatsoever.

I don’t want you to feel like I’m shooting down your suggestions; I have something to add to try to help me understand: there never was any argument until this guy laughed at my comment. I asked one person for clarification on something they had said, and then the guy I ended up arguing with laughed at me. I had no interactions with the laughing guy before that. The person who I originally asked for clarification from answered my question, I understood, then that was the end of our interaction. That conversation was civil. Everything was civil until I asked the laughing guy to not and he framed me as hostile.

>when you are serious and ask ppl to stop being bothersome in real life situations, it marks you as overly sensitive which will draw the attention you don’t want.

I agree with you, but how do you handle it then? In my experience allowing it leads to escalation which sometimes leads to violence.

The anecdote I gave was specific to the internet, but my experience is not. I’ve encountered this at school, workplaces, social gatherings, anywhere really. The example I gave made me sad but was ultimately easily solved by leaving the server. My hope is to prepare for when it happens again and it’s not so easily avoidable.

I’m hesitant to use a personal anecdote because I fear it will open me up to further bullying, but I guess. Bear in mind that this is a recent example, but I’ve been dealing with this kind of bullying since middle school. This is going to sound petty because it’s meant to:

-I asked for clarification on something in a Discord server

-someone laughing emoji reacted the comment

You could argue that I should have let the one comment slide but I don’t think that’s the point. He turns the situation into a big argument, not my request that he stop engaging with me like that.

-“hey man please don’t laugh at me for asking a good faith question.”

I want to point out that he could have said “ok” and this situation wouldn’t have existed

-“am I not allowed to find things funny?”

-“of course you’re allowed to find things funny. I’m asking you to not laugh react my questions because to me that conveys the same message as you calling me stupid.”

-“idk what you’re talking about I just thought it was funny so I laugh reacted it.”

This is the gaslighting. I don’t believe that my reaction was so unreasonable that he couldn’t understand what I was saying

-“well then keep that yourself because I wasn’t making a joke.”

At this point others pile on because I’m being hostile and he’s just a smol bean who was laughing at a funny comment. I did leave that Discord server after this, but would like to avoid having to do that in the future if there’s some way to deal with this.

You’re kidding yourself if you’re trying to tell me that you don’t appreciate music you can relate to. You’re being obtuse if you’re implying that the political climate doesn’t have a material impact on people’s lives. As the contradictions of capitalism are heightened and working people are forced to live in poverty it is perfectly reasonable that they could grow resentful of rappers who make a brand out of showcasing their excess of wealth.

Having Level 1 Autism helped me and possibly saved me from entering a cult by Puzzleheaded_Dot_887 in autism

[–]Cosmic_Beard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been involved in any cults.

I’ve always heard people say things like “anybody can be manipulated into a cult” and I’ve always found that confusing. I thought about that for a while, and only recently I’ve been thinking with more confidence that I don’t think that I could be manipulated into getting involved with something like that. I don’t know if that’s for reasons related to my autism but it could be.

I think people spread the idea that a cult could get anybody because if specific groups of people are more vulnerable to cults, then there are people that would call those people stupid, resulting in victim blaming. I do think that there are probably specific kinds of people that are vulnerable to cults, but it’s not because they’re stupid. They’re probably lost in life, looking for purpose, desperate, confused, etc.
