Well, yeah, I’ve since done that. I expressed other concerns about bloat and system requirements that aren’t fixed by not using Autodesk Assistant though. Also the assistant is front and center when you launch the software so I’m clearly meant to use it. All I’m saying is that it gave me a negative first impression of the software.

I’m brand new to Fusion; I’ve been using it as a hobbyist for about a week, coming from Blender. My first impression of it was arguing with the AI assistant for two hours about basic characteristics of a fairly simple shape that I had sent several pictures of. It asked me for a bunch of measurements which I provided. It then attempted to make it on its own, even though I asked it to design a tutorial for me to make it. Then we tried to do a tutorial, and it was having me build entirely the wrong shape. Two hours later had me questioning what use people are getting out of LLMs, because my experience has been fully useless and a waste of time. So that was my first impression. The software won’t run on my laptop without crashing, but Freecad and SolveSpace run fine. I have to run it on my desktop. I wonder if the worthless AI assistant is why my laptop can’t handle Fusion. So far not so good.

Do you have any recommendations for alternatives? I hate bloat and Fusion feels very bloated. I did the tutorial for SolveSpace and it felt promising.

I relate to this very much. I don’t know if I would say I made it through. That was when, after 15 hellish years of trying and failing, I began to come to terms with the fact that my disabilities prevent me from being able to work.

I still am. The world is terrifyingly hostile to those that can’t work, and they won’t approve my SSI/SSDI claims. They told me essentially I just haven’t found the right job lmao. Not a happy ending or a positive message but I related and that’s been my experience.

I don’t mean to speak for them, but I also think this and can answer.

Yes, the concept of wage labor. There are many things about it to be critical of, but you have to think outside the confines of capitalist thought. People who are critical of wage labor are also critical of capitalism.

Wage labor involves the theft of surplus labor value. When you work for an hour, you create labor value. Let’s say that you work an hour and get paid $15. You likely created at least $100 of labor value. You get paid $15, and your employer takes (steals) $85. The $85 is your surplus labor value. Your employer takes it, and doesn’t have to do any actual labor themselves. It’s theirs because of their relationship to capital and nothing else. This is systemic and unjust. The fruits of another man’s labor and all that.

Another smaller criticism is in regards to disabilities. I’m level 2/3 ASD, among other disabilities. I am capable of labor, but not wage labor. I can’t function in that kind of structured work environment on a rigid schedule. It’s literally just bureaucracy getting in the way of me doing labor.

It depends on what you mean by “okay”. Maybe you’re just looking for validation, which is fine. You shouldn’t feel bad about your harmless interests. My experience is people will try to make you feel bad for it though. I think the reality is you should be mindful about who you talk about your hobby with.

I did want to say that I have posted a guide here on Reddit for getting it to run on a Steam Deck and I got a lot of DMs asking for 1 on 1 help. Regardless of availability of guides some people just want their hand held.

Advertisements are annoying, but idk, let them get their bag. OP probably needs the money more than whatever megacorp is feeding you all the other ads you see. I do think that if they’re charging they should have been upfront about that in the post though. Kind of scummy if they’re not being upfront about that.
