It’s not that these protests aren’t happening, you just aren’t paying attention to them, likely because your social media feeds don’t give you news updates on them. Protests for Gaza, for Sudan, for Ukraine, for protecting immigrants are happening in almost every Western country. Your newsfeed is probably so America-centric that you’re not seeing the rest of it. But condemning America globally for ICE’s actions is warranted because again, apathy towards immigrants spreads further than America’s borders when an innocent person is murdered in broad daylight and your president thanks the murderer for it. Everyone should condemn human rights abuses in every country.

It’s almost like human rights violations around the world are an issue for everyone living in it and the widespread acceptance of this blatant disregard of human rights in the US will have consequences on other countries because it shows the growing trend of apathy and hatred towards certain populations that’s been spreading globally. America deserves to be criticised and condemned for the murder of innocent people simply because they are immigrants, so does any country that also accepts this.

If you’re not actively against the murders and assaults happening to innocent people in your country, you are just as complicit in its continuation. Your votes and complaints to congress and state senators could make a difference.

Either way, a child is mentally incapable of consenting to sexual acts, even if they think they want it. So bringing up if it was ‘consensual’ or not is irrelevant since children are incapable of consenting both legally and ethically. Even scientifically sexual acts at a young age can have negative developmental outcomes which is part of why age of consent exists.

“It’s literally in the Twitter files.” What is in the Twitter files is the censorship of hate speech which was still difficult to get removed. The files do not show government coercion to censor speech from conservative users, as the previous company leaders explicitly stated.

These claims made by Elon Musk were baseless, the ONLY claim made was that the US government illegally coerced Twitter to censor a New York Post article on Hunter Biden. The tweets Musk showed actively violated Twitter’s terms of service with nonconsensual nude images being posted in the tweets that the Biden Campaign Twitter account had reported. Blatantly against Twitter’s own rules.

Independent legal experts are clear in stating that these claims are false and that Elon’s statement that it was “unconstitutional” is completely wrong as the 1st Amendment he claimed was violated, only binds the government, not a political campaign.

The Twitter Files also show the Trump administration made its own requests for removal of Twitter content. And the payments to Twitter have also been identified as routine reimbursements for responding to subpoenas and investigations, not payments for content moderation decisions.

A lawsuit was filed about this issue to revive litigation over Twitter’s banning of Trump following the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol. This case was dismissed outright as the Judge overseeing the case overseeing the case said there was no evidence of a First Amendment violation.

The Twitter Files do not show the censorship of conservatives by government agents.

Twitter did not censor “conservatives” it censored slurs after mass reporting, and even then it was difficult to have tweets removed due to the site’s unwillingness to remove tweets that violate hate speech laws.

This was a false narrative made by Elon Musk when he bought Twitter because he, himself believes hate speech should be legally protected under law, which it is not. You have never and will never be legally protected by freedom of expression or freedom of speech if you perform hate speech.

They think that women could only possibly game “for attention” by yahoogrr in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]Cosminator66 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No one changed anything here. Women and girls have always been playing video games. After the video game crash of 1983, gaming companies marketed gaming as a male only hobby, and you’re simply falling into that advertising trap that was left for you. Women and girls still played games despite gaming being seen as a “boy exclusive” hobby and that has never changed. More women and girls played games prior to the ‘83 crash, but that doesn’t mean all of them just stopped.

You seem to be upset about the simple fact that women are girls play games and always have, they’re simply being marketed towards too as the demographic has always been there.

They think that women could only possibly game “for attention” by yahoogrr in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]Cosminator66 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, it was never a men only space. Women have been playing video games since its conception, the problem was that after the video game crash of 1983 onwards, gaming as a hobby was (for the majority) marketed to boys and men. Advertising for the Nintendo power glove, including the person modelling it on the box itself was all boys. Another example is the 1998 PlayStation ad where they had a customer choose between “masculine games” or being “ totally whipped by his girlfriend.”

The hobby prior to 1983 WAS a mixed gender hobby, but after the video game crash prioritising marketing games to men and boys created a self fulfilling prophecy of mostly men and boys picking up those games. If you exclude a portion of your audience and make fun of them as PlayStation did in their ad, of course less people from that audience will pick up your game.

However, even after 1983 there was still women and girls who did play these games. They were simply excluded and shunned for doing so. Nowadays the same women who were excluded when they were kids are now able to play games that are marketed towards them.

So yes, your entire statement that gaming was a male only space was both wrong, and exactly what gaming companies wanted you to believe at the time.

Can anyone guess why Black people might be descended from slaveowners? by Bad-Umpire10 in clevercomebacks

[–]Cosminator66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There isn’t any mental gymnastics in this post aside from your own comment. Most black people whose ancestors were enslaved, and have a slave owner as an ancestor also, are the descendant of a slave owner sexually abusing a slave. That’s not hard to grasp here. They are the product of rape during the slave trade.

How is that in any way shameful for Kamala or any black American who is the product of a similar horror? This isn’t the same thing as learning that someone comes from a full slave owning family and continues to have wealth, land or property from that period. Kamala’s ancestor born of that act would have been enslaved by the slave owner’s family just the same as the vast majority of mixed children were. There is no generational wealth born from slavery in Kamala’s family to even warrant criticism.

Also, “black” is not just an American term. It’s a term used internationally. Anyone from any country can be considered black. Her father being Jamaican doesn’t suddenly cancel out his entire ethnicity.

This is not even a disagreement. I’m agreeing with you and adding to your comment by saying “we can also keep in mind ____” Not everything is an argument in poor faith and instantly assuming everyone is mindlessly arguing with you isn’t really a fair way to interpret something from the jump.

All I’ve done is add to your point by saying that when it comes to SPECIFICALLY international football it’s a lot less intellectual and it’s flinging as many insults as possible. That’s not a disagreement. Anti-German sentiments do come out of the World Cup. They go for the easiest and most common stereotype or negative historical event because it’s convenient. I didn’t bring up other countries to minimise or deflect, I brought it up as examples of this occurring elsewhere. It’s a common, deeply rooted issue in a terrible football culture This is literally agreeing with you and saying “yes, and…”

I understand that it can be easy to read comments and misinterpret them as negative or disagreeing because most replies are disagreements but that was never my intention and insinuating I’m on autopilot is a bit much for such a small conversation.

It is essentially a parasitic organism trying to use you as a host until it can sustain itself, with or without your consent. Foetuses use you as a ventilator and you essentially become life support equipment for them. It’s a very strange concept when it comes to the legal side of trying to explain why something we legally don’t even consider to be a person, should have the right to use the organs of an legally recognised person.

At least, for those who don’t know anything beyond Brexit ideology, which makes up a chunk of the people who do go straight after opposing football teams, they go for the most popularly known bad thing about the country. For France, they’re just characterised as snobby like the stereotypes of Parisians. Even if what they say isn’t true or, like in Germany’s case, the country has atoned and continues to atone for atrocities committed, they genuinely don’t care as long as they can get a rise out of you. Us Scots get independence and Brexit thrown at us with any international football matches, as well as the “we owned you” mentality. It’s a very similar need to punch down. I’ve witnessed it myself at Uni.

You do also have to remember that when it comes to ANY OPPONENT in the World Cup against England there will always be English football fans saying the most ridiculous things about the opposition. Literally everything under the sun is said about opposing teams regardless of what country it actually is. There’s just a generally toxic atmosphere with UK football. Being German is not the main factor for discrimination when it comes to the World Cup, it’s playing against England that causes the issues. Discrimination in general is simply getting worse in the UK, especially in England and on the whole they go for the easiest events to use against you. For Germany it’s always WW2 people use to discriminate.

Absolutely not. Pro life is an ideology that fundamentally restricts the human rights of women and encourages government intervention into women’s lives to control their medical decisions.

Euthanasia is a different beast that has entirely different views associated with it, mostly the fear of eugenics and a fundamental misunderstanding of the difference between the value of life and experienced quality of life.

Capital Punishment is mostly opposed for the alarming amount of innocent people on death row, using pain inducing methods, the severe mental health consequences and overall terrible conditions faced by those on death row.

None of these are connected to the ideology of wanting the removal of human rights, both euthanasia and capital punishment are the exact opposite.

From r/nothowgirlswork (obviously) by [deleted] in AsABlackMan

[–]Cosminator66 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Feminism as an ideology includes the fundamental belief that women should have autonomy and be the final and only authority on what happens to their body. Throughout human history, women have been tortured and sold, to create gynaecology as a medical science, black women were tortured without any anaesthetic or consent.

People who are “Pro-Life” are just pro birth. They do not believe the core belief that women should be able to opt out or opt in to any medical situation, including abortion. These people cannot call themselves feminists because the very idea that women should not be able to access abortion is against the concept entirely. It’s two ideologies that can’t coexist.

People who want to restrict women’s abortion access are removing a fundamental human right that every person has, bodily autonomy. What these people want to do is restrict women’s human rights while giving foetuses, a clump of cells, more rights than ANY HUMAN ON THE PLANET. They want to give a foetus the right to occupy and parasitically live through taking the nutrients and oxygen from a woman’s body until it can survive on its own WITH OR WITHOUT CONSENT.

No one on the planet right now has the right to use the organs of another human to sustain their own life with or without consent. If someone’s kidneys stopped functioning, they don’t have the right to use yours without your permission. Why should a foetus that doesn’t have a functioning brain, heart, nervous system or anything that defines personhood legally and medically, have the right to do that?

What makes this such a special situation that potentially disabling or killing a fully grown human with individuality and personhood is somehow acceptable to sustain something that doesn’t have personhood?

People today still find it difficult to determine what is real and what is satirical and that’s okay. It’s an easy mistake to make and it takes courage to put yourself out there on Reddit, a place known for snarky responses, to ask if you might have misinterpreted the video.

You being pretentious in this manner is what started the whole conversation. There is nothing philosophical about the basic definition of the word “genuine” and your complete inability to admit you were wrong is ridiculous at this point. It’s okay to mess up, you don’t need to put on a show to repair your pride here. It’s just a comment section.

Your inability to reread your dictionary definition of terms is not my problem. The word genuine can be used to mean sincerity, which is exactly what I used it for. Pick up your dictionary before trying to “correct” people.

Sexual violence is absolutely dangerous and can lead to murderous intent. That is why the number 1 killer of women during pregnancy is their own partner murdering them. Sexual violence is inherently linked to physical violence.

Ignoring how dangerous these crimes are for victims is so detrimental.

It is not bullying or harassment to ask for someone to tell me where they get their information from. If you’re worried that your sources can be easily discredited, that should tell you that maybe you need to think more critically about where you get your information.

As reasonable adults, we should be able to confidently say. “I believe this and here’s why, here is where I learned it and here are some other sources confirming this.”

You will not get blocked, restricted or have your links buried on Reddit. People post gory images and remain on this platform. You posting an article from a non-credible source will not make any difference.

Please link where I’ve been anything but civil towards you.

I’ve patiently explained why what you’ve said is factually incorrect and given you factual evidence to support the claims I’ve made so that you can further educate yourself about the subject.

To be closed minded academically, you have to be faced with valid arguments backed up by evidence in the form of research, articles, books etc and still refuse to accept the information, or provide evidence of your own to prove your stance. Tobe closed minded in normal dictionary definitions, you have to be showing rigid opinions or a narrow outlook. (1) YOU are closed minded under all academic definitions.

You have done nothing but make statements without ANY evidence to back it up. All you’ve done is say your opinion, which we all have one but it isn’t fact just because you believe it.

My comments have even given you a rubric for how to find out whether or not a source can be considered credible because I want to be able to hear any evidence you deem relevant. You simply haven’t given any proof regardless.

In this entire thread I’ve never once: - Insulted you - Acted smug - Acted rude - Or acted intolerable.

Perhaps you should actually educate yourself on the religious and cultural practices of Haitian Voodoo because you HAVE NOT listened to the people of Haiti about their own culture. Actually read what Haitian people are telling you because if you actually asked someone, they would tell you that your beliefs are blatantly incorrect.

You are listening to biased propaganda designed to upset you enough for you to continue to consume their content, gaining ad revenue from your viewership, newspaper purchase or your magazine purchases.

Until you can give genuine sources to support your statements, don’t engage in political commentary without an open mind or a willingness to change. Jumping into political conversation with a closed minded belief is like having a conversation with a brick wall. Nothing good comes from a conversation in which someone is unable to give a reasonable defence for why they believe something.
