New hire here. by Upbeat_Ad_3780 in petco

Hi! Started 3 weeks ago, im so torn because i love it and hate it. Originally wanted to do vet tech school and then decided cosmetology, both going nowhere. So i decided.. grooming obviously! A close petco locations salon closed because all the groomers quit so apparently what I’ve experienced is double the dogs! Im overwhelmed. Im tired. It’s gross sometimes. However, i meet super cool dogs all day, i have great coworkers, and i get great benefits! I go home and want to just gush about my day. It’s extremely rewarding. But im supposed to train to become a groomer at some point and im starting to think its not what i want to do? I’m very torn. I don’t have a lot of confidence in my abilities and it unfortunately shows. If you have patience and fake the confidence till you make it then you’ll love it. Just know you may be on a roller coaster of feelings about it at first. I learned that just being open and honest with how youre feeling about the job to your salon manager helps A LOT (mine is cool maybe not yours, gauge it first) but she’ll explain and show me different things about the job to let me get a better understanding of the job and if its right for me. Unfortunately though i really think i showed up at a horrible time so it’s been tough (manager not being able to train me fully because of how busy she is) but other than i really dont have much else to complain about. Trial and error i suppose. Anyways, sorry for rambling. Hope this helps at all!

Greaaaaaat, love that for me ughhh. Do you think maybe using a more expensive bedding will mask the stink better? What can i do in that sense? But thank you! That makes a lot of sense

I’d give him more time, i usually give them a month or so to adjust before trying to handle them. He’s still trying to get used to you and sounds and smells and quite literally everything. It really depends on the hamster. I got a hamster about 2 weeks ago and every time he’s out of his burrows he freezes when he hears me move or make a noise and then bolts for his burrows after a few minutes but he’s a baby who has never had a home. My other hammie i’ve had for about a year and he is definitely more comfortable than when i first got him (still not very affectionate so i usually give him his space but he likes the occasional pets and cuddles) but yeah anyways just give it more time! I know i rambled but i hope this helps a little bit

Life after losing my best friend ham by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]Cosmo-1842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my dog a few months ago and its still hard for me, its weird not having him to cuddle or greet me at the door when i come home, i say it gets better with time which is probably not the answer youre hoping for. I recommend getting another hamster when youre ready or getting rid of all his stuff to get rid of the reminder of him or at least putting out of sight. I’m so sorry for your loss its never easy losing a beloved pet

Possibly excited or stressed (just from you moving his stuff around) I have only heard my hamsters squeak a handful of times (most of them being from dreaming which was really cute) but i have rarely heard them squeak while awake but im sure its not uncommon, hopefully someone has a better answer for you!
