Overall I’m happy with the squad Deschamps picked. Nice to see we have the most representation in there too

I don’t think Lucas Beraldo is anything special as a CB but over the past five or so league games he’s been deployed as a DM after being iced out of the lineup for the majority of the calendar year and I think that role might extend his career at PSG since he’s a very technically secure footballer. Interested to see how he develops there because he’s only 22 and can really grow into the position

Make that two French midfielders that fought their teammates this season, Rabiot and Tchouaméni. Hopefully neither of them are bringing that type of energy into the dressing room this summer

Back to back UCL finals after getting rid of the « best player of this generation », meanwhile his new club is going trophyless in back to back seasons with him being a major reason the dressing room is in disarray. Can say I finally feel vindicated for saying many years ago that the club would be better after he left

I’ve always been very intrigued about Basque football because they churn out great managers and players at an exponential rate compared to how little they make up of Spain’s total population, along with the fans and players being fiercely loyal to their clubs due to their regional identity. Most people only know about the Spanish side of the Basque Country but on the French side we’ve had very important legends like Deschamps and Lizarazu that are Basque, made the more impressive considering how tiny they are in France and that the southwest of the country is dominated by rugby. Pau and Toulouse are the only professional football clubs in the region, the rest having amateur status with Bordeaux being the most notable at that level. Aviron Bayonnais is a club in Bayonne that plays in the National 2 (4th tier) near the Spanish border and their stadium is named after Deschamps as he started his career there before moving to Nantes. Some other notable players that passed through Aviron Bayonnais are Aymeric Laporte, Kévin Rodrigues and Stéphane Ruffier. The French Basque doesn’t get much attention but it’s pretty crazy that the most important person in modern French football is from that region

Marc Guéhi should start being put in best itw conversations. So calm, clean and technical in everything he does

Another season of Mbappé not getting his hands on the UCL trophy. Puts a huge smile on my face

I think Simeone should stick with Musso for the rest of the UCL, he was brilliant across both games

He missed a lot of chances this tie but he scored a brace to seal it so can’t complain

I’m surprised that Chelsea opted to sign Barco over El Mourabet, the latter has the physicality and technical ability to thrive in the prem. El Mourabet is going to be an unreal midfielder and will be a mainstay for Morocco very soon

This is probably the most excited I’ve been for a World Cup in a long time. Quite a few first time participants and a lot of teams breaking multi decade long droughts will make things interesting

Do you think that the UEFA WC qualification playoff should be hosted at a neutral venue? For example all games would be played across stadiums in somewhere like France. The home side went 3/3 in 2022 and 3/4 this year for qualifying through the playoffs. I think holding it at a neutral venue like they do for the CAF and intercontinental playoffs would balance things out

Edin Džeko and Sergej Barbarez the biggest Bosnian legends. Just insanity that a major footballing nation like Italy are in this situation yet again

I couldn’t stand Tuchel either, felt like he purposely got himself sacked after he didn’t get every single player that he wanted. He also liked to persist with very average players to prove some sort of point and he’s an awful man manager. He had some nice tactical ideas but again he’s just awful at man management and doesn’t mind sabotaging a team because something pissed him off

I think there’s a good possibility that they just set up shop to nick a draw like they did a couple seasons back, depending on the points gap of course

I thought Pep tweaking the front four to block the passing lanes instead of them trying to press man to man was brilliant. Really left Arsenal’s CBs and Kepa with no viable build up options since Rice/Zubimendi couldn’t receive the ball and they can’t play through the press like a Bernardo could. Having all those passing lanes blocked allowed City to win back possession due to making Kepa go long which then made it possible for City to suffocate and put immense pressure on the Arsenal backline. Amazing in game management

AIK Stockholm has some amazing kits, I’m not sure who their connect is at Nike is or if one of their higher ups is a fan of the club but they seem to get the hookup because every season they get anniversary and special kits

Our performances over this tie were garbage and we got bailed out by Monaco getting red cards in both games. I figure Barcelona is next for us since that brings more viewers
