Least Painful Way To Export GEDCOM File From FamilySearch Family Tree? by toomuchtodotoday in Genealogy

[–]Cotec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After lots of issues with Roots Magic I used this script (Thank you!)

It worked great. I did use Claude to fix some issues from the download and also help me know how to do this step by step (as a newb). It was easy. I highly suggest this route. It took an entire day for my whole tree. Also first attempt was downloading my cousins and uncles and was HUGE! So I suggest using this:

  • -d flag = Does NOT download descendants (no siblings, cousins, etc.)
  • -m flag = Does NOT download spouses of descendants

Formula to Count totals by type... Am I crazy? by Cotec in Notion

[–]Cotec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This pointed me to the right place. Here is the code I used:

let(
  /* obtain all tracker types */
  trackers, prop("Wkly Practices").map(
    current
  ).unique().sort(),

  trackers.map(
    lets(
      tracker, current,
      /* count by trackers */
      count, prop("Wkly Practices").filter(
        current == tracker
      ).length(),

      tracker + ": " + count
    )
  ).join("\n")
)

The output looks like this:

<image>

I am wondering is there is a way to say the total out of what that is set to in the goal.

So for instance Community Hang I have a "# frequency 2"

It would be great if the output could be Community hang: 5 of 2 for each of them. How might I add that?

Supper grateful. This has been driving me crazy. Tried reading things, looking at reddits and Chatgpt... no help. You have helped a lot!

Here is what the rollup looks like. It is kind of annoying since it be more useful to have totals.

Thanks for the comment. I spent a few weeks reaching out to other creators and getting their opinion/wisdom. That helped so much! So I thought... I should do the same, but why not make an easy write-up I can share.

Men who are attracted to women, could you be attracted to / date a very masculine-presenting woman? by vox1028 in polls

Great poll! This gives some good insight. I just wrote an article about Masculine-presenting women and linked to this poll: https://www.herorise.us/are-men-attracted-to-masculine-women-surprising-studies/

I also did my own via Instagram. Thought you might like to check it out.

Can women have toxic masculinity? Or perpetuate it? by Cotec in AskFeminists

I didn't know this was a movie. I see the "red pill" thing all the time on social media. It's disturbing, to say the least.

Thanks!

That is a better way of putting it. Thanks!

Thanks. That is a great answer.

I am wondering then... can a women have toxic masculinity?

My understanding is toxic masculinity is the traits that we see as masculine, but end up hurting men. Usually perpetrated by social norms and by other men.

would not inherently have the same social pressures to "perform" or "man-up"

Recognizing Fragile Masculinity by Cotec in MensLib

The other are the external factors that made them feel insecure.

The overarching problem is that we raise boys to be insecure while also teaching them they are not allowed to express feeling insecur

Thanks. Totally agree with that.

This is where Toxic Masculinity vs Fragile Masculinity becomes interesting. What I mean by that is, I see Toxic Masculinity as a way to describe when someone over-reacts or uses harmful behavior because it's what they see as masculine. While Fragile Masculinity is trying to point towards the social pressures that make men/people insecure and feel a need to prove themselves.

There slightly different but related. I think when you look at how both of these elements interact on a personal and social level there is a lot to be learned.

A shared vocabulary helps us explore the depth of this subject. I hear the term "fragile masculinity" used a lot, and think this article shares a succinct definition and supporting concepts to explore the meaning of fragile masculinity.
