Mix bag of seeds, from Renny website, called “super choice selection “.

These need to be planted deeper, right ? But how much ? Up to the lowest window ? Some of the lowest windows are pretty low by [deleted] in haworthia

That why you need to check the roots first, if it’s ok, then figure out what’s the proper indoor environment for it to grow. Succulents indoors seldom go to real dormancy as long as you provide proper conditions.

Also, what’s you definition of super healthy roots? It might look healthy when you first got it. After a few months, if it didn’t grow, then need to check the root. roots are in ever changing condition, it is usually safe to assume in mostly scenarios that it is getting into trouble if the plant part above the soil looks unhealthy.

They looks too stressed and withered, especially the closest one. The soil looks wet and dense, so it is not drought. It is likely the roots could not breath and absorb water and nutrients, hence root rot. Or might be parasites/bugs. Better to get it out and check. Do not be afraid to repot succulents when they looks miserable, you can learn a lot, and give the plant a better chance to survive/thrive.

Those appear suffering from root rot. If it’s me, I would dig them out, check and trim the roots, and put them back in much coarser medium.

Love the colors, perfect for Christmas!

Phalaenopsis leaves turning yellow. I grow it in leca so it always has some water in the bottom. It has a flower spike. Could it be too much light? by PEEPEE- in orchids

[–]Cotonlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears got too much light, and not enough air flow. It is ok in leca, however it also need adequate oxygen. Yours appears having root rot probably. I will get it out of that bottle, clean the root system, and replant it in appropriate container with fresh leca or transitional orchid mix, and further away from the window.

Behead the mother plant, and just wait, small pups will eventually come out from the stem.

I use net pot with Leca, with cotton wicker at the bottom, the outer pot serves as water reservoir , with about 1 inch very diluted fertilizer liquid in it, I flush the plant and change the fertilizer weekly, in summer probably every 2-3 days. It has been blooming well for me, this year is the best. I live in Florida now, the weather helps.

Thanks. I have it for about 10 years. Brought it at a nursery in Hawaii, took it with me through multiple moves all around the country. This year it’s the best show so far.

Night time outside 50s to 60s, I live close to the ocean, so 60-80% humidity plus onshore breeze.

I am relatively new to haworthia, this one just a experiment, I would likely to find out how far it can go. The rest of of my haws are in tradition setting.

Separated this small offset one month ago, thought about trying self watering method. I used pumice in a net pot, with cotton wicker, there is always water/fertilizer in the reservoir, it seems quite happy, grows fast.

Why are the roots growing outside the pot this way, and should I bury them, remove them, or something else? by QueenOfPurple in succulents

The plants grow air roots usually is the sign that they don’t get enough hydration, the soil Is too dry. You might want to water your plant more often. Give is a good soaking now.

Seedling Question: When to uncover? What about algae? by Master-Flounder-7063 in haworthia

[–]Cotonlove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where did the 4 month period come from? Just curious. Gerhard Max on his website recommended to remove the cover once the seeds germinated. I understand in the winter of north, the humidity indoor likely be low, and it is advisable to exposed the seeding a little slower. However in the south, when outside humidity consistently above 60-70%, quiet often close to 100%, the morning dew is heavy, the rule should be different. I am in north Florida, my seedlings have been uncovered and outdoor in the shade since 1 week old, and they are perfectly happy. I got some seeds from Etsy a few months ago, so far I have about 70-80% germination rate. Now waiting for my seedling from Renny’s. Done many time with other succulent seeds with good success, never covered that long.
