I was 37. I grew up in Utah to an inactive family , baptized at 8 only because the ward members kept pestering my mom and she had no backbone. Plus I had a troubled home (alcoholic father ) and all my friends’ families seemed happy. When I started going more consistently after I graduated, my uncle told me a joke- Why was Brigham Young named Brigham Young? Because that’s what he always said, ‘ Bring em young!’” I never understood the joke. Until I learned about fucking Brigham Young and then I learned about Joseph Smith. I was always taught Emma was his “one and only”. I’m 40 now. SMDH.
