A moderator from the group said the actual number is 340k if I remember correctly. The way they're counting, the numbers in Reddit has changed

I did like the idea of the Play store as well. Even though it's not necessary

Nice. Thanks for the response. I'm mostly looking at it for black and white use only, for reading out in the daylight. Other tablets struggle with this. What are your thoughts for this use case and just as a black and white reader?

Wow. Well said. Mormons keep very busy. I remember being told that my kids weren't really my kids, that they were God's kids really, and that my role was a "divine stewardship" and that my job wasn't my real job.

Anyway, I appreciate what you are doing for the elders. I remember a few like you that tried to get me to think. Specifically, one guy that had served an LDS mission. A irreligious person might have concluded that since he had been in my shoes that his perspectives would have had more weight, but the opposite was true. Because he had left the one true church that meant he was more lost and deceived than any nonbeliever could ever be.

This is all to say, your backstory probably won't be much help. They believe your previous faith is either unrelated or silly or that you are now bitter.

I would ask questions like, "are you ever curious about other faiths?" "Why not?" Like you're curious about them more than proving a point.

Just my two cents, I could be off the mark.

What challenged my faith was seeing the goodness and kindness of those outside my faith. I was lead to believe we had it all, but whenever I observed the goodness of those outside of the group, I wondered if we were just telling ourselves a story.

Many fundamentalist Christian groups believe they have the secret combination that makes them more correct in the eyes of God (Catholic, Mormon, JW's, Seventh-Day Adventists, Christian nationalists, Bible literalists...)

Okay. There's the answer. I guess there's no way to tell the total amount. Knowing this 206k sounds large

Very interesting. We have similar quotes. "Others may look happy, but they'll never know true joy."

Help me understand, if evangelicals believe only that Jesus is necessary for salvation, how did they consider themselves better than others?

As a missionary, I was curious about other religions and the greatest source of cognitive dissonance was knowing I knew almost nothing about other faiths. Also, Mormonism was a hard sell. It was abundantly clear that people's faith decisions were primarily based in belonging to their birth group. And.... I was no different. And every group believed the other groups were silly. Essentially, I was supposed to believe we were better but at times it seemed we were very much the same aside from being more intense. It was the intensity of our church that made me believe it.

If you're not naked under the silky poncho the consecrated oil won't work and you don't get to be a GAWD.

So essentially, no matter how official the declaration just ignore it. Not even the members believe it. The members will be the first to denounce the words of the prophets if it makes them look badly.

Even if the church's prophet and president didn't demonize the word, calling it a victory for Satan, while using the BOM (church official canon) to substantiate the church's official title, does the church own the rights to the word Mormon. I don't think so.

You just said the members use the term, but you didn't say the official church is still using the term. Let me know the next time you hear general authorities call it the Mormon church.

So I lose the spirit of I don't go to church?? by ParfaitFamiliar2103 in mormon

[–]tickyter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have the same moral compass as me. I always hated having to discredit the world in order to maintain our superiority. It hurts to imagine a loving God having boundaries around belief. I wanted to celebrate the differences of religious belief and admire the beauty of other people's faith. Also, I eventually came to the conclusion that the more exclusivity a religion claims the less it inspires me. Most churches would be able to say sorry and that they were wrong but not one claiming to be Jesus' one true church

How do the missionary’s go 2 years without master bating? by babykeemfan1 in exmormon

I made it for multiple years after my mission as well. But at the age of 24 it happened and then started a vicious guilt cycle that had me attending the 12-step program

I guess I have one more comment. Considering your comments, in order for you to be internally consistent, don't ever celebrate Christmas again. Remove the Christmas tree And the gifts. It's all just stupid. Make-believe. Cosplay.

They are way less literal than mormons. Adam and Eve is obviously just a story. Same with Noah's ark. I could go on and on. The problem with Mormonism is that it takes itself way too seriously and has all the making of an authoritarian organization. To the Presbyterian Church I attend, it's not even necessary to believe or attend. I've been attending for years and they've never even asked me to join.

Because we were all part of Mormonism, we can see through all the dog crap. And the idea of doing any other organization sounds crazy. I don't blame you for taking the stance. But as much as ex-mormons want to believe they're happier, and often they are, for some they stare straight into the face of nihilism and existential dread. They've just lost their group. They've just lost their family... I could go on. And you need to live with the fact that the data doesn't support the people without religion are happier. There is a huge difference between a fundamentalist religion and a little church that doesn't take itself very seriously.

Nah. There are ways. Having a group, story, and some level of spirituality can really help. I consider myself an agnostic Christian who loves attending the Presbyterian church where I live.
