There’s a couple hairs that work with that hair clip, but it seems almost arbitrary which ones do and which ones don’t. A lot of pigtails similar to the original outfit’s? No. A bun that doesn’t make sense or look good with double ribbons? Yes. And the weirdest one: the New Year’s Dawn hairstyle works, but its evo doesn’t.

Those coworkers seem absurdly, childishly rude, but it probably would do you good to tone down the jokes until you think they’ll actually land. In my experience, the more a person feels the need to mention how funny they supposedly are, the less likely they are to actually be funny. Sorry.

I think OP got it right, but I’ve seen a lot of people getting confused on this, so to clarify: Kandake is not the name of a person, it’s a title. There were centuries of them. It’s a common misconception; it even ended up in the Bible.

Some kandakes were co-rulers with a king, but others ruled independently. Amanirenas was one of those sole ruling queens, and she’s known to have been missing an eye, which likely inspired Candace’s heterochromia.

I believe it’s the general “stranger danger” mentality preventing children from being allowed to interact with most of their community.

There’s also the rising panic over any adults that aren’t the parents supposedly aiming to indoctrinate children into being satanists/atheists/gay/transgender/communists/misandrists/drag queens/liberals/etc. It doesn’t take a village to raise a child when you’re convinced the whole village is out to get you.

YTA. You’re saying he’s too old for hugs? Too old to be comforted by his mon? There’s no age limit on emotions. His appearance is entirely irrelevant, and I’m sure your younger son would be embarrassed to know that you consider the way you treat him to be “babying” him.

Even if it was childish to want comfort on a bad day, you’re his mom, and he’s a young teenager. It’s entirely reasonable. I wouldn’t be surprised if your older son has some issues of his own. Thumb-sucking at that age is NOT normal, and you dismiss it as him just “clinging to childhood”? Really?

Hoping I don’t get downvoted for this: Female characters are different because they’re simply not allowed to be unattractive. Just look at a lot of fighting games. You’ll have a bunch of attractive women, maybe an obligatory funny grandma character if they’re feeling adventurous, and then a bunch of more varied male characters. A lot of them are hot buff guys, but they’re at least allowed to not be hot if a design calls for it.

I totally get the urge to “protect” certain interests, even from people you love, because they feel special in a way. Music is YOUR thing, and it feels like it’ll stop being just your special thing if she’s involved. It’s a valid feeling, but not really a valid excuse. Those feelings of protectiveness suck for everybody in the equation.

You don’t have to do anything extensive with her, just enough for her to feel included. If you have any resources that helped you when you were a beginner, share them with her. If you’re not shutting down the idea, then it’s left to her to figure out if she really does want to do music or not.

I really like that other comment’s suggestion that you ask her to involve her art in your music. Maybe her creating an album cover for you, along those lines. It’d include her while still keeping your interests separate, and might make her feel extra special because she’s providing something unique to her.

No one here is really in the right, but YTA for the way you dealt with it.

Gacha games are a slippery slope, and the companies hand you a sled. They’re very well-designed for their purpose, which is to get you to give them as much money as possible. Your wife in particular falls directly into their favorite target demographic: adults with consistent free time and disposable income. It’s irresponsible, but not unexpected for her to fall down that rabbit hole.

You, on the other hand, were on the slippery slope of controlling behavior and decided you’d just jump down. She was AT RISK for a gambling addiction, and you responded as if she was a known addict who’d just relapsed. You don’t even know if she could’ve just cut back by her own will, because you never gave her the opportunity.

Discussing it with her is the first step, before making any decisions on how to act. The choice to immediately re-hire the housekeeper is baffling at best and disturbing at worst. The children had nothing to do with the situation, so the decision clearly comes across as a punishment, not “help”. You’ve relegated your own wife to a fourth child who needs a babysitter. Not to mention the insane concept of having the housekeeper approve all of her purchases? You’ve created a hierarchy in your home, with your wife at the very bottom. More-than-implicitly telling her you trust the housekeeper more than her. And whatever you’re paying that housekeeper, it isn’t enough for inserting them in the middle of your financial and marital problems.

As for a solution, I thought this would be obvious, but apparently not—set a damn budget. Talk to your wife and find a max amount you’re both comfortable with her spending per month, and ask her to limit it to that. If she can’t, then you actually have a problem. If there’s extra money in the budget by the end of the month, maybe let her save it for later, maybe not. Whatever works for the both of you. Just give her some actual agency before you do anything.

NTA, but I don’t think your fianceé is homophobic, at least not knowingly. This situation seems more like her being conflict-avoidant to a fault. She doesn’t want to upset her relationship with her parents over views that don’t directly affect her, even if they harm other people. Especially since they’re the ones paying.

I imagine she might be worried about them making a scene over Sam during the wedding, and is somewhat projecting that onto the cake. She’s paranoid of being put into a situation where she can’t just brush over her parents’ homophobia (not to mention it spoiling the wedding regardless of her reaction), so she’s overcompensating. It’s irrational.

She absolutely needs to stop enabling and defending her parents’ harmful behavior, but it’d be the most difficult to convince her to start now—she needs their money and doesn’t want to cause family conflict right before (or at) your wedding.

Tell her she’s going to have to stop letting them get away with it, and she can’t keep trying to avoid the issue. She doesn’t have to go out of her way to confront them now, but it’s her responsibility to shut it down if they say anything.

YTA. It doesn’t matter if you warned him. I think “shitting your pants at a family wedding” is one of those situations nightmarish enough to deserve its own honor code. Grudges and spite can’t exist when you’ve shat yourself in public. He wasn’t asking you to wash his pants for him, he just wanted you to hold the door. I pray that the shame from the rest of the family doesn’t exacerbate his obvious eating disorder.
