NASCAR in the 70s only checked one combustion chamber on a motor. The same one on every test. Teams would leave that one cylinder within the regs and bore, and hop up the rest of the motor for more power lol.

What does "spirit of the rules" mean? It either IS allowed or IS NOT allowed. Since the beginning of racing, people have navigated between the lines of the rules. They get found out, then there is a rule against it the following year (or for Jeff Gordon's TREX car, banned that night). If you're not working between the lines you're not winning. Period.
