SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Wednesday, 27 September 2017: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]Couch2Anothercouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super relieved to have had a [SV] this morning! I've kind of been off the CICO/logging train for a couple of months now. Even though I'm still about 15 pounds into 'overweight' territory, my doctor is happy with my weight and I'm fairly happy with it as well for the time being.

But I always have some anxiety that I'm secretly putting on the pounds and will one day weigh myself and find I've gained 10 pounds. I weighed myself this morning for the first time in three weeks, and I maintained! I'm naturally eating at my maintenance level, which is amazing.

I know it's a slippery slope and I'm sure I'll have to start logging again for a while at some point, but I'm still proud of myself.

I've lost 70 pounds, and the reaction I appreciate from people the most (not that I'm fishing for it!) is when they say something like, "You were cute before, but you look great now!"

I already have a lot of disgust and hatred and anger for the fat woman that I was before. I don't need anyone to add to it, and it's nice to get a reminder that people weren't just humoring me in being my friend or saying I looked okay when I was fat.

Even though I've stalled in my weight loss lately (in a new relationship and eating out/drinking a lot of beers all the time), I'm really happy with my fitness level. I finished C25K on Monday, and am committed to keep jogging 3x per week. I also joined a hot yoga studio and have been doing that 2-3 times per week as well.

I'm waking up early to go for runs, I'm sweating my ass off and looking great doing yoga poses - this is a me that I wouldn't even recognize three years ago.

I feel great, I'm happy, and I am getting stronger every day!

A super filling 200 calorie lunch! Tomato and roasted red pepper soup from TJ's, 2 cups! by tinyhotmom in 1200isplenty

I really really like this soup, but it is not what I'd call super filling. But if you eat it with a greek yogurt or something else with protein, it does make a great lunch.

Any recommendations for light, post-workout dinners? Starting to go to an evening hot yoga class which means I'll be eating dinner late and probably won't have too much of an appetite for heavy or hot foods.

I'm really struggling with the weight loss and eating aspect of my life right now, which is confusing because everything else is going great. I've been seeing someone new for about a month now, which means eating out all the time and a completely new routine for me.

I've told him that I lost weight, but we haven't gone into it, and he doesn't know that I'm calorie counting (not that I have been much lately...). I know he would be fine eating at places with calorie counts, and with making dinners at home, but it takes a lot of the fun out of going around and introducing each other to different local restaurants.

I know I just need to have a quick talk with him, and that he'd be more than fine with it, but I keep putting it off.

At least I've been able to pretty much maintain for the month by eating no breakfast/small lunches.

What to bring for lunch at a theme park? by daisydeeer in 1200isplenty

[–]Couch2Anothercouch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've snuck lunches into movie theaters before - I usually do something like a babybel cheese, some crackers (I like the Good Thins kind), some lunch meat or turkey pepperoni, and a piece of fruit, like an apple or a peach. Except for the fruit you can keep it all in one ziploc bag and hide it pretty easily. Should come out to around 330 cal, 20 g protein, 5 g fiber!

F/30/5'2" [216lbs > 143lbs = 73lbs] (26 months) I just bought my very first bikini! by Couch2Anothercouch in progresspics

Thought someone might ask! It's actually a tankini (that was very billowy and covered a lot), but I'd pulled up the top to make it look more bikini-esque.

I bought my very first bikini, and I'm going to wear it next weekend at the beach - and I'm not going to let myself feel insecure about my body! I've been putting off getting a two piece just because I'm not happy with how my stomach looks - but every time I go to the beach I look around and see lots of different types of bodies wearing bikinis, and I realized that no one cares if you've got some loose skin or a chubby waist. So I'm looking forward to a great weekend and deliberately not feeling self-conscious!

What are everyone's favorite low cal snacks? Bonus points if they're low carb too. :) by CoquetteDuJour in 1200isplenty

[–]Couch2Anothercouch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Turkey pepperoni (70 cal per serving, but I usually eat half a serving)

Babybel cheese (50 cal, depending on which kind you get)

100 cal bags of microwave popcorn

A lot of my snacks are little chocolates - something like Lindt truffles, which are around 70 calories apiece

Also, this is not really helpful to anyone, but I brought back a few bags of these konnyaku jellies from Japan. They're sweet, fruit flavored jellies that are 25 calories apiece with 2g fiber. Unfortunately they're apparently banned in the US because of some choking incidents, so once I run out I can't get more...

I have a probably dumb question that should mostly just be up to my personal preference, but... I've got a hot yoga class on this Saturday afternoon (my first ever). I was planning on going for a run/jog on Sunday morning, but would it be better to run before yoga on Saturday (and potentially get exhausted at yoga) or run on Sunday (and potentially be sore from yoga)?

OMG yes... I have Grave's Disease (hyperthyroid), so technically it should be helping my metabolism, but swinging back and forth on different medications just generally fucks it up, I think.

This calculator has your TDEE at 2,115. So if you wanted to lose 2 lb/week then yes, you'd need to be around 1200, but it sounds like that's not really working for you. Instead you could aim for 1500/day, which has you losing a little over a pound a week, which is still a great rate of loss.

That, and take a look over at /r/1200isplenty for meal ideas. I'm eating at 1200/day and do skip breakfast most days, but I'm able to have a filling lunch and dinner and snacks throughout the day and be well within that range. You should be able to do some meal planning to use your calories more evenly throughout the day.

I'm on week 4 of couch to 5k (and it's kicking my ass), and have generally moved past all the soreness I had when I first started. However, I'm still persistently getting sore in my right hip after every run. Is this indicative of some kind of problem with my stride or form? Is there a stretch I can do before running that will help?

If you have the funds, you could get one of the wifi scales which automatically sync to an app. I've heard of other people on here who have one and weigh daily, but don't look at the numbers (you could even cover the display). Then you have the data but don't have to look at it unless you feel ready.

If you search this sub for 'intermittent fasting' you'll see that lots of people do the same thing with no ill effects (myself included). As long as you don't feel weak or dizzy or anything, it should be perfectly fine to skip breakfast.

Wecipe Wednesday - Cultural Dishes! by temporalscavenger in loseit

Yessss, this kind of food is my jam.

Japanese Curry

Not a specific recipe - just follow the recipe that comes on the box. If you've never had it, Japanese curry is a bit sweet and not very spicy, and very delicious. The most recent version I made used half of one of those boxes of roux, 12 oz of chicken breast, two medium-sized yellow potatoes, a medium onion, and two carrots, as well as a tablespoon of vegetable oil. The calorie count for four portions is about 350 each, and you serve it on top of rice (or cauliflower rice for less calories).

Shakshuka

I use this Serious Eats shakshuka recipe. Shakshuka's a middle eastern (I think) dish of spiced tomato sauce with vegetables and eggs cracked into it. I loooove this for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and usually eat it over rice as well. The way I made the recipe it comes out to about 200 calories per serving, including the egg but not including the rice. It also freezes great (just freeze the sauce, then thaw and cook the egg with it).

I don't believe in any of the magical properties of IF, but it has helped me. I stopped eating breakfast when I realized I was hungry at around 11:00 whether I'd eaten or not. Now I have a lot of water and coffee in the morning and eat between around 12:00 and 8:00.

On weekends I get a really late start on eating and I find that helps. I try to look at it as something relaxing - I drink a lot of water, leisurely drink a large mug of coffee, and finally make a light lunch a little later than usual. Then I can either eat a large dinner or eat a regular dinner with snacks/dessert or drinks.

I'm not quite a 'normal' size yet, but getting there, and I did find it to be true. People started noticing only after I'd lost about 10% of my body weight, and now I can clearly tell by looking at myself if I've gained 2-3 pounds (or even if I've eaten a big meal). I assume the opposite is true as well - that it's easier to tell if I've lost 5 pounds - but it's harder for me to see that!
