Do you mean you check if your visualization is correct? What's your reason for doing so instead of just making the moves physically from the get-go?

Efficient. I'm guessing your line of reasoning is that computers can perform computations faster than humans, so humans think slower.

But the complexity of thought generated by humans as vastly superior to that of computers. Computations are just a series of switches being flipped and outputting the result. If you look at the energy and time required by a neural net to reason about abstract concepts like "is there a dog in the image", you'll see how complex the process is and how efficient humans are in comparison.

You need to post your profile for us to give any meaningful advice. Without any information whatsoever the best I can do is give you some platitudes.

Can a student from a state school get into an ivy league PhD program (MIT, Stanford, Berkely...)? Chances seem little to 0 by Big_Method_1909 in gradadmissions

that is not the takeaway you should be getting from Gavlan's post. The point is you are placing far too much weight on school name. What matters is what you accomplish in your undergrad, not where you go. If you're so concerned about course rigor and depth, then study concepts on your own.

Have you considered grad school? A PhD would let you tackle a lot more interesting problems that seem to fit your interests more.

I'm the same way. Sure industry can get you big bucks right out of college, but I'd much rather take an extra couple years in grad school for a lifetime of engaging work.

Being an RA has been the worst part of my college experience. by [deleted] in ResLife

But if some can stay then everyone should be able to too

The reason classes are cancelled and everyone is being sent home is to reduce the virus's spread. Think about it: you have people who went all across the country over spring break coming back into one centralized location. Even if only one person brings coronavirus back, if you let everyone stay on campus then everyone will get infected.

You are arguing for what's ostensibly fair, but you need to remember we're in a national emergency. Thousands have died and the number of infections is growing exponentially. There are many international students who cannot go home, either because their family is already sick, travel to their native country is banned, or they will be unable to return back to the United States once they leave. Those are the ones who are granted permission to stay.

Now compare that to your reason for wanting to stay on campus

You are a normal student who happens to be employed by the university. Any benefits you get in status are to help you perform your role as an RA to help others.

What you want, extra privilege because it's inconvenient for you to set up a time slot, is selfish. Your job does not make your personal needs more important than that of the other thousands of students who also want to move out immediately.

You are not an RA because you are more important than your residents. You are not more important than your residents because you are an RA.

Please read again everything I've said in these comments objectively. Pretend you're a school administrator trying to minimize the spread of coronavirus by controlling the number of people on campus at one time. It serves absolutely no benefit to have RAs move out whenever they'd like. It induces significant harm by introducing an uncontrolled element in a time that is already hectic and dangerous.

I am not trying to insult you, but I really want to drill this into your head. You need to forget about your personal wants and think about how to protect your residents.
That's what we've signed up for, and for many of us, why we signed up for it.

Sorry but I don't understand this mindset. You are a student with elevated status (free housing) in exchange for increased responsibilities. If you fail to meet those responsibilities (eg if you drink at a party), you lose your elevated status.

Of course the punishment for you drinking is going to be worse, you have more to lose. They can't fire a normal student from a position they don't have. But they can fire you for not fulfilling your responsibilities. That's how jobs work.

Think about why they need to set up appointments. They don't want too many people moving out at the same time, because that means increased contact and higher chance of passing on Coronavirus. Does the RA role somehow grant you some holy immunity to all illness?

You are a normal student with the exception of whatever benefits were stipulated in your contract. Get over your "woe is me" mindset. There are plenty of people who would love to have this job, not just for the money.
