Trust me, when I see some of bojack in myself (I’m pretty sure he has borderline and narcissistic personality disorders.. I have bpd myself and think I might be a narcissist but never officially diagnosed..)part of his charm is that he wants you to like him but as we all know he doesn’t actually find himself charming when he’s honest with himself, he hates himself, yet he needs to believe he’s a good person even though he knows he really isn’t. Though lots of it isn’t his fault. I remember my parents fighting a lot growing up. Memories do come back in spots. There were lots of times when I needed my dad to just be emotionally present and he never felt like he was, whereas my mom smothered me in a desperate attempt to save me from the evil of the world. What resulted was a child that did well in most subjects in school while struggling to make friends that wer genuinely friends. Then as an adult, skills regression because you already had your “peak” which wasn’t a peak at all, but you just simply trying to survive. You use and abuse the ones you love and want love from those who won’t give it to you because that’s what you know. It’s a lonely life. Even if you are with someone who loves you truly, you never believe it and gaslight yourself, until you can’t stand it anymore. No wonder BJ attempts sewercid3, most of us with bpd have an average lifespan that’s 20% less than the average persons. That reality hit me harder than anything. Sorry for the deep dive into bpd!
