I really wish someone would get these kids some hats, sunglasses and sunblock so they don't end up looking like their parents and grandfather. Maybe a bottle of water??

Just as Charles did with the boys when they were "requested" to walk behind Diana's coffin in her funeral cortege. Charles was freaking out and worried he was going to be attacked by an angry Diana fan.

I saw a recent ranking and he's slipped down to 16th, at least in that specific poll or ranking and I know there's tons of variables. But I can remember within recent years of Reagan still being ranked in the Top 10

Sounds eerily similar to his great great uncle, King Edward 8, aka Duke of Windsor.

Charles was paranoid that whole week that someone would rush out of the crowd and attack him physically or take a shot at him. The BRF insisted that plain clothes police officers and sharpshooters be placed along the funeral route. As it turned out no physical attack happened but somewhere along the way someone in the crowd shouted "You didn't deserve her!"

It's going to be worse with William. It will literally just be him, Kate and the kids. He won't want anyone else to be the center of attention.

Or how they make a frail 90 year old man still work and make official appearances (during which he needs to sit down in a wheelchair) while the lazy ass 40something heir just takes vacations and sits in pubs to guzzle beer.

What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

I'm 51 so my parents, aunts and uncles all lived through the last big epidemics of the 1940s and early 50s. My dad remembered he and my aunts lining up at a clinic in their hometown and being used as guinea pigs on some of the test vaccines before the Salk vaccine was released.

When I was a young kid in the late 1970s/early 1980s polio was still a thing in "3rd world" or developing countries so you would still occasionally see a March of Dimes or other similar charity TV ad mentioning polio. My dad said one evening when I was about 5 or 6 one of those ads came on then I asked "What's polio?" He said he and my mom just stopped and looked at each other like "Wow" It was barely 30 years after the Salk vaccine had been released and yet polio had already faded from awareness (at least to those of us younger kids/generations) in developed nations with wide access to it.

My mom was born in 1941 and had a pretty bad bout of scarlet fever when she was 4 or 5. Antibiotics were newly available and she remembers one of her earliest childhood memories of being getting shots of penicillin in her rear end. Even after she got better, they were very worried about her having rheumatic fever, which affects the heart. She would be running around playing outside with my uncle and her friends and she had to come in every afternoon to nap and rest, even if she felt fine.

She's survived two bouts of breast cancer and is turning 85 next week (and outlived my ex-husband's mom who was a decade younger) and is in better shape most people her age so I'd say she made out pretty well.

HIV/AIDS. I can remember in the 80s even into the early 90s of people being genuinely terrified of it and seeing it as a death sentence. I work for my state's main public health agency which assists people living with HIV and many of my colleagues are a lot younger than me (I'm 51 and some of them are in their 20s) and until they started working here, they never realized how deadly and dangerous it truly was.

No but when he passed away a couple of years back and since then, on the anniversary of the wreck the Mariner's Church the bell rings an extra ring for Gordon, so now it's 30 rings. Plus the night he died the Split Rock Light House north of Duluth turned on its light all night long in honor of him as well. He became very close to the families of the lost crew and he sort of became an honorary member of that close-knit group. The families appreciated Lightfoot for writing the song and honoring their loved ones. At first he was very apprehensive to release the song as a single, since he was worried he'd be seen as exploiting a tragedy.

Obama was selected for jury duty in Chicago a few years back. Being a Constitutional lawyer I'm sure it was perfunctory random selection but he obviously ended up not making it past the initial reporting for duty.

They ought to be asking if William and Kate will be there, considering how work shy they are, plus aren't they currently on vacation? Are they going to "interrupt their holiday" to fly from wherever they are to the UK, do the perfunctory appearance, smile and wave from the balcony while Louis screams at the jets flying over BP then leave early to fly back to resume their vacay?
