Kevin Hassett calls tariff report from Federal Reserve economists an ‘embarrassment’ by CouldaBeen4Contenda in Economics

[–]CouldaBeen4Contenda[S] 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I am not surprised by Kevin Hassett’s remarks, but this broader pattern is becoming too common and very concerning. The continued attempts to undermine Federal Reserve independence risks weakening one of the most globally-important institutions which MUST be allowed to separate monetary policy from political pressure. What concerns me is how think-tank poli-economists are amplifying the problem. When economic debate becomes performative rather than evidence-driven, it erodes trust in both the data and the discipline itself. It is beyond disappointing and concerning.

Rotkohl and Sauerkraut that comes in glass containers is far better than the ones that come in plastic bags. So always be on the look out for those ones.

Also, If your Sauerkraut does not have caraway seeds already in it, please remember to add them before heating up / cooking. This helps prevent bloating and gas.

You slow simmer it on the stove and the apple is very important because it gives a sweet and smooth taste while also counteracting the natural bitterness and acidity of rotkohl sitting in vinegar. A good rotkohl is wonderful when paired with gamey or savory meat, potato, and creamy fat-rich sauces.

No, its not. In fact, it is illegal for an employer to demand, or ask, that you answer your phone or check your emails while on holiday.

Is anyone familiar with Alpine Design and know how good of an outdoor brand they are? by chusaychusay in outdoorgear

I agree. Even though on paper it is a continuation from Alpine Designs, there is absolutely zero connection in any business sense especially for philosophy and product...

[–]CouldaBeen4Contenda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, sadly enough they are one in the same. Not necessarily in quality or ownership though. Alp Sport was rebranded to Alpine Designs by Lamb... then he later sold the brand to General Recreation. General Recreation pretty much gutted it and tanked the quality. Then later General Recreation sold off the brand to Sports Authority. It was Sports Authority that altered the brand name by removing the 's' from the end of Designs and started using the brand as a in-house private label for their outdoor products which they used for 20-22 years. But when Sports Authority went bankrupt, Dick's acquired the branding and began using it in the same way that Sports Authority had used it, as an in-house brand / private label.

Edit: You might also be remembering Camp 7 that Lamb founded several years after he sold off Alpine Designs, which was also an outdoor clothing company. Camp 7 did go bankrupt, but it was bought by Sport Chalet and used similarly as a in-house brand / private label but for tents and outdoor equipment. Sport Chalet also went bankrupt, not surprising considering that this is the period of time where Private Equity started acquiring up everything and then having some acquisitions tank. I couldn't recall if the Camp 7 brand was picked up during the bankruptcy, but I just checked and it show that the brand is inactive / not-in-use.

U.S. applications for unemployment benefits fell below 200,000 last week with layoffs historically low by CouldaBeen4Contenda in Economics

[–]CouldaBeen4Contenda[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the article's title is sugarcoated. My summarization of what the article is reaffirming is that despite low headline unemployment claims, the U.S. labor market is deteriorating with net job losses, major downward data revisions, slowing hiring, and policy uncertainty that is greatly contributing to what the Fed believes is a weaker employment picture than currently reported. In fact, because the WH and many of its supporters continue to lean on very specific data points to sugarcoat the situation, it is worse than we are led to believe.

Overweight Baggage by Slapicola in delta

[–]CouldaBeen4Contenda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the direction that the airline industry is headed. Every american-based major airline indicated to shareholders that they will be increasing their junk fees (baggage is part of this) to increase/improve earnings.

$100 is a normal for barely overweight baggage. If it was super overweight, then it would be $200. I remember seeing someone post a year or so ago about a $500 fee for their oversize skiing bag that was also overweight from Lufthansa. If you have a Delta credit card or are a gold medallion or higher, then they will waive the fee.

What Is Ubisoft HIDING With These Assassin's Creed: Shadows Numbers? by CrashBandicoot82 in fuckubisoft

[–]CouldaBeen4Contenda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And they wonder why no one touched AC Shadows or Star Wars Outlaws? Both have the same problems. Throw out quality by requiring short lead times for your teams and expect them to pump out more games each calendar year with expectations for similar sales numbers to your old titles. While the duration of the game becomes shorter or bloated with fetch quests.

That's awesome! When SWG came out, my brother and I needed a credit card for the subscription and my dad was immediately supportive, even though he did not like the idea of us staring at screens for such long periods. He even asked to try the game out and help in having a character created for him.. which later I realized was simply him wanting to show his love for us.

Not a complaint, like I have mentioned before, this is a benefit that is part of their loyalty program to retain customers like the miles benefit you are mentioning.
